or losing faith. either one is as bad as the other. both mean the same result. no hope. i've never felt this low. no interest in prayer. or Bible study. for that matter - no real interest in music either.

this is not a place i ever expected to see. and i don't see myself ever getting out of it.

Mark,

I understand where you are at I am in that same place trying to work my way back. I have never in my life not had faith in God, until now and it's been killing me. I left church, theology school and Bible study. Maybe together we can help each other find our way back. Before anyone starts quoting acripture, please save it. I have heard it already and have to go through this during this time.

Hi, my fraternal brothers.

We all seem to be in the same boat, on our feelings about God.

But we just have to hang in there.

My brothers, I have hope for me. I have hope for you. And I have hope for our other brothers in pain.

I believe that we have to find ourselfs, before we can find God.

Heal well my fraternal brothers, heal well.

Mark and CF,

I too at times lose my faith in God. But find that He never loses faith in me. And is always there when I choose to seek Him.

Mark, I find prozac helps me with my issues of depression. I don't really like having to take it but it does really help me when my depression becomes overwhelming.

I have found Lexapro to be helpful, and I am doing quite well without a religious aspect in my life. You can get there too Mark. What happened with your trip to cheese country? Next thing that we know we'll see you at Lambeau with a cheese hat on, cheering your Packers to victory in the -40 degree windchill!!!

Keep your spirits up, my man. How about somewhere better for dinner than the Chinese buffet?

There must be something to be happy or at least grateful about???

I'm grateful that we didn't get food poisoning there!!!

Hi Mark,

I can so relate. Sometimes when I feel shitty, God doesn't abandon me; almost always all the time it is me who leaves God. May you find peace and happiness once again, brother.

Humbly,
Jay

For years I have been driven to the Psalms amid depression and anxiety. I always find comfort there. There are so many passages from the Psalms that apply to where I hurt. I just read them over and over again. I underline and make notes in the margins for things that apply to me. People will nearly always let you down, but God will never let you down.

Ps 46:1-3
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

NIV

Ps 146:5-10

5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord his God,
6 the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them —
the Lord, who remains faithful forever.
7 He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,
8 the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
the Lord loves the righteous.
9 The Lord watches over the alien
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

10 The Lord reigns forever,
your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the Lord.

Ps 147:3
3 He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.

NIV

Ps 118:1-7
18 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.

2 Let Israel say:
"His love endures forever."
3 Let the house of Aaron say:
"His love endures forever."
4 Let those who fear the Lord say:
"His love endures forever."

5 In my anguish I cried to the Lord,
and he answered by setting me free
.
6 The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
7 The Lord is with me; he is my helper.
I will look in triumph on my enemies.
NIV

Yes, sometimes I argue within myself with the message: "Lord, you said you would set me free. I am not free." "Lord, it says, 'What can man do to me?'" Inwardly I argue: "Plenty, Lord. Look Lord what they did to me"

I don't have all the answers but reading these Psalms builds my trust. I think survivors have a hard time trusting God. But He is there and He will help you.

The Psalms are really great. There are also some great words in the gospels, but one of my favorite verses was the theme verse to a book I read when times were worse: Hope In Difficult Times.

PTSS can be overwhelming, so when we're down a word of hope is so valuable to hold on to.

Lamemtations 3:22,23

Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.

Many a long despairing night was gone through with the assurance of these words....and not just by me. Not every morning was great, but after time things start to heal.
