Partial lyrics from the song "get over it." The rest of the lyrics are just as bad.

I heard the song this morning and nearly threw the radio.

...
You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass

Get over it
Get over it
All this bitchin' and moanin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

Again: Fk U Don Henley !!!!

In our MS Peer Support group yesterday we were discussing this very issue, how irritating and frustrating it is when people respond with the "just get over it" reaction. I think its very telling about the kind of person using that response, a very callous and self absorbed type. Either that or he is just plain ignorant. I wonder if he wrote the song himself or just recorded it. Either way, things like this just promote shame in people who want to reach out for help.
Thanks for this contribution to humanity, Don!

Actually I like the Eagles. Even like this song tho the lyrics get a bit angering. It's got a great beat so I ignore the lyrics! laugh I'm gonna keep my inner child as far from him as possible though, thanks.

Actually I bought the Don Henley album with "The Boys Of Summer" on it because BBC TV kept using that song for Formula 1 Motor Racing coverage.

Still, no reason to ever buy his records again...

Hey,

Like John I like the eagles and have since the 70's.
The best American Band ever!! Their music speaks for itself.
Would love to see them in concert if it didn't cost so much.
So they are rich arrogant a--holes at times we all have our faults. We are all entitled to our own opinions even if it shows how ignorant we can be.
Remember that they are only a couple of guys who have alot of musical talent and no more.

Think I'll go check into my favorite hotel. Hotel Califnoria!!
Because I tired of living in the Fast Lane.

Mike

His song "How Bad Do You Want It" doesn't offer much better. It seems to taunt the abused, but I could be reading it wrong.

Sounds like words that might be said by an abuser

If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck . . .

Sorry if this offends anybody.

Or...

are those the lyrics of a survivor in denial ???

My family "tradition" is to "put it in the past"...

or said differently; pretend it didn't happen and smile smile smile...

resent manipulate and shame were constant companions of the stuffing of emotions.

hugs, Wes

WELL...on THAT note....let us consider another song that is obviously metaphoric, but I believe to be FULLY about CSA and the survivor talking to himself about realizations:

Something in me, dark and sticky
All the time its getting strong
No way of dealing with this feeling
Cant go on like this too long

{chorus:}
This time youve gone too far [x3]
I told you [x4]
This time youve gone too far [x3]
I told you [x4]

Dont talk back
Just drive the car
Shut your mouth
I know what you are
Dont say nothing
Keep your hands on the wheel
Dont turn around
This is for real
Digging in the dirt
Stay with me, I need support
Im digging in the dirt
To find the places I got hurt
Open up the places I got hurt

The more I look, the more I find
As I close on in, I get so blind
I feel it in my head, I feel it in my toes
I feel it in my sex, thats the place it goes

[chorus]

Im digging in the dirt
Stay with me I need support
Im digging in the dirt
To find the places I got hurt
To open up the places I got hurt

Digging in the dirt
To find the places we got hurt

I can definitely relate; "Digging In The Dirt" was probably my favorite song off that album. "Don't Give Up" (featuring Kate Bush) from the album "So" was both wonderful and excruciating to listen to... the first Peter Gabriel song i remember really noticing was "Biko", especially the lines:
You can put out a candle/ but you can't put out a fire/
Once the flame begin to catch/ the wind will blow it higher

-Powerful stuff.

VERY interesting that this thread GOOGLES rather high-up on a "Don Henley Get Over It" search.

If this related article is an accurate indication/interpretation then.....here's yer sign:

Title is Don Henley was right....Get Over It!!!
