OK, that title may be a bit misleading. laugh
So today I finally decided to break my age-old rule of no pets in the house and get a cat.
I'm not sure what prompted me to decide to do it, but I looked at a few pictures online of cats available for adoption locally, then decided to take the leap.
I grew up on a farm filled with cats and we always had a dog too. Not sure I'm ready for a dog, but the idea of having a cute cat around to snuggle or play with really appeals to me for some reason lately.
Anyway, so I went to the Animal Rescue League, played with a few and decided to adopt one named Mike. He's adorable and will come home with me later in the week (they have a waiting period so you can be sure you are making the right decision).
Mike is a beautiful orange and white male, not very old, with an amazing past. He was found on the streets, battered and beaten and sickly, and has now made a full recovery. He's healthy and unbelievably affectionate.
I guess you could say he's my own "little survivor." smile
I actually spent time with several cats before picking him. And each of the cats I held at first spent time purring in my lap and then when i put them down, they took off to play, which I'll admit was quite fun to watch. But Mike was different. He cuddled with me on my lap, but when I put him down to let him play, he instead jumped back into my lap for more "snuggle time." It just seemed so perfect. smile
It's funny, I'm suddenly nervous and anxious at the same time, all for a cat!
Well, wish me luck!

Awesome! Pets can be very therapeutic not to mention just really great companions. After many years without a pet there is one in our home. A cat. A small dog is also on the horizon!

OK, I'm off to make the final decision and pay the adoption fees and all that fun stuff. I can't take him home until at least Thursday, but it's getting hard to wait! smile

And Michael, somehow I knew you'd like the name. laugh

Here's a pic of him, can't wait to take some of my own later this week.

Lars,

I had a orange tabby when I was a kid his name was tigger.
He was a great friend, and used to love to chase my mothers poodle around the house. He would ambush the dog from the top of the couch. It was cool to see him fly off of it right on top of the dog.

Sounds hilarious Mike!

OK, I'm probably beaming ear to ear right now! Just called and made the final arrangements. I get to pick him up around 4:30 or so today! I can't wait! Apparently, he saw a local vet a few days ago and is ready to be taken home as soon as I want, rather than having to wait a couple days! Yipee!

I can't get over how cool it is to have a "little survivor" like him around. He's been through so much and really struggled just to live. smile Kinda a good reminder about ourselves, I think. We've been through hell, but we can and will keep on fighting.
