Itís 4am the rooster crows
yes heís here, his face it glows
turned over, I wait to see
itís one of the three

Itís 4am the rooster crows
dreading what he already knows
a rude awakening, time to play
itís the price I have to pay

Itís 4am the rooster crows
and the fear it grows
conditioned in repose
positioned not to oppose

Itís 4am the rooster crows
time flies, this boy grows
the stain it still offends
too ashamed to have friends

Itís 4am the rooster crows
time to get up put on clothes
at life he still pretends
the fear tho, it never ends

Itís 4am the rooster crows
here he is and my face glows
Everyday I turn it on & wait to see
Yes Ö Iím wanted just for me

Arron,

I can remember waking up sometimes in the middle of the night, as an adult, but feeling I was little again, or young again, and transported back to everything that had happened. Kind of like with your symbol of 4 am. But yes, it does get better. I still remember but those memories cannot hurt me now like they used to.

Much love,
Larry

Hi Larry

It's rather silly at times, the things that can set me off.

Someone in the neighborhood has recently attained a rooster, it's against the town council by-laws for roosters to be kept in residential areas , but anywoo ... someone has and the damn thing goes off at 4am every morning.

When I was a kid my Dad had 2 trained bantam roosters, they used to sit one on each arm, they used to scare the crap out of me.

Arron,

Yep - it's interesting how we latch onto vignettes from our childhood that for some reason seem to be especially significant. Mine is the image of sitting at the dining room table, just home from another "episode". I would sit there kind of "watching" the rest of the family like I was watching TV. They would be talking about Dad's day at work, how we did in school today, various chitchat, and then this phrase, "Larry, could you pass the peas, please?" Peas. You you kidding me? I have just been molested for the nth time and you want the peas?

I guess it encapsulated how alone, helpless and defenseless I felt. In your poem the motif of "4 am" and the rooster suggests the idea of the abuse happening again and again and again, with no way for the boy to stop it, while the daily routine of the rest of the world just rumbles on by.

Much love,
Larry

My Dad's roosters used to start crowing (is that what roosters do?) at 4am every morning,

I remember being woken up by them all the time as a kid, and laying in bed wondering if & who was going to come thru the door.

Not that it happened all the time, mostly my Dad saved it for weekends ... but them damn roosters went off everyday like clockwork haha
