Brian,

I had a lot of respect for you, but I am questioning that now after learning about your cold weather"fetish". Why can't you be like many of your Canadian bretherend and invade Florida for the winter. I have never seen so many Maple Leafs flying so proudly, as I do when I am in South Florida during the winter.

I will talk to you when I come out of hibernation in spring....:)

Dan

I love winter.
But we don't get much of it in Texas.

At Camp fuji, we got glorious 3 foot snows.
Unfortunately they melted quickly on the volcanic ash.

I hate winter. I really, really hate it! Especially having to drive in it. Last year was so bad that going to work was like having a near death experience twice a day!

Trying to unwrap my fingers from the stearing wheel. Its been months since I had to do that but I can still feel the tension.

Assholes passing you in limited visibility, kicking up more snow making it seem like you are driving in the twilight zone.

There is a guy at work, originally from Scotland. He bitches and chews about the winter. When he does this I say "Hang on Angus. You immigrated to this great country of ours as an adult. You CHOSE to come here! I'm the victim here. I was born here. I don't have a choice!"

Hmm, maybe I'm a survivour now? will think more on this.

155 days until Jamaica!
Jim

you know what this means don't you Brian?

it means you can leave ice cream out of the freezer for as long as you want and it wont melt- means you can make an ice cream sculpture in your garden!!!!

The Weather Channel is calling for 6" to 12" of snow in eastern Montana and northern Wyoming today and tonight!!! And here in Colorado we have already had snow several times at higher elevation. Just last weekend we had 6"+ at over 9000 feet elevation. Look-up Loveland Basin Ski Area on Google. They have some recent photos of their snowmaking efforts. They usually open at least one well-shaded easy run off of chairlift #1 by mid-October. Of course, their base elevation is almost 11,000 feet high! And Arapahoe Basin should open shortly after Loveland does. http://www.skiloveland.com/snowmaking/

Glad I'm not in Cabo San Lucas these days with a Cat-3 hurricane bearing down. And I have seen 17" of snow in Amarillo before, so I know that it does snow in Texas. While you are in Amarillo why don't you give the 72 oz sirloin a try at the Big Texan Restaurant right alongside I-40 east of town? It's free if you can eat it all!!! http://www.bigtexan.com/72ozlive.htm

Have you got your skis and sled tuned-up yet, let alone the storm windows on and the garden hose put away yet?

Better get to work,

Mark

So, it's a measly 1 degree in the plus right now. Maybe in a few hours it'll dip down again.

Thought it might be a time to post a few thoughts to this thread. First of all, you people and your aversion to cold weather. Do you know how much more difficult you're making cold weather for yourselves?

Try this on for size:

There is no bad weather. It's all just weather. Granted, there is weather that is more suited to specific occasions such as a sunshine festival or winter carnival. These however are nothing more than expectations of the weather that we ourselves impose and thereby set ourselves up for inevitable disappointment if we don't get exactly what we 'want'.

To further fuck with preconceived ideas of what "good" weather is; I'll continue:
A long walk in the rain is truly fantastic.
Driving during a snowstorm is amazingly fun.

Last but not least; let's say we're unable to toss out the "good weather/bad weather" weather-o-meter from our thinking. What would "good weather" be without the "bad weather"? Next thing you'd be judging the quality of sunny days versus other sunny days. It is my belief that people whom embrace weather variety live a healthier life than those whom choose (and yes, I do mean choose) to be grumpy or bitter when the weather isn't everything they wanted it to be.

I wonder what kinda shit this reply will stir...
~Bri

Hmmmmm. I need to take this away and think a bit. But hey, I think I could go for a place where all I could judge sunny days by would be other sunny days. ;\)

Frost,

It was 76 degrees today and will be 38 tonight.
Until last week it had been in the 90's and 100's in the day.
Cold weather sucks!
I love it here in So.Cal.
Very little winter and rain.

Mike

I'll give you that, but...

A bike trip to campus in a 20 mph headwind sucks.
Skidding across the pavement on your chest because you hit a patch of black ice on the bike path, though entertaining to bystanders, is amazingly not fun.

LOL... I used to love winter, but these old bones just can't take the cold weather anymore. And besides, we don't get snow like we used to. My hometown had three snowmobile dealerships when I was growing up and an annual winter motorcycle and snowmobile ice racing tournament on the lake. Now, no dealerships within 60 miles, the lake doesn't freeze over anymore and the ski resort can only open if it gets cold enough to make snow.

So, if the only thing I'm going to get out of winter is cold and wind with no snow, what's the use? \:\(

Snowmobile racing is back, Michael!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtKW-ZpqMIQ

Just a little bit north of Ohio, though.

Loveland Ski Area may be open next weekend here!!!

It has snowed there all weekend on top of their
snowmaking last week.

Just a little bit west of Ohio, though.

32F=0C. -40F=-40C. What gives, eh???

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

I would drive my pickup if it was icy out.

Now that gas is down to $2.95/gallon.

Have fun this Winter,

Mark

I cannot believe that just two months ago my wife and I were dying from the heat at the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Two months!

Now look at it! Its white out there, lurking and waiting for me to slip on some ice, like a nasty old spirit that has nothing better to do that bother old curmudgeon wannabe's like me, simply trying to meek out an honest living, and put food on the table for my wife and children....

Ok, HIGH AND DEEP! not the snow though LOL!

You guys should be here in Denver if you like Winter!!! The mountains above 8000-9000 feet elevation have been obscured by whiteouts most of the day and are really white when the clouds break from time to time. The temperature outside my front door is in the 40s and the wind is gusting to 50 mph! It is that time of the year here in the Rocky Mountains again. And the best part is? This storm is heading east!!!

Ha, ha, ha, ha....too bad!!!!

Have fun,

Mark

You've got to love it!

PS: The runs that are open have an 1100 vertical foot drop,
not 100 feet as shown on the snowmaking page. I just scored
two free tickets pointing their typo out to their management!
There is a photo of the lift that serves the open runs on the
lift ticket page.

Let's go skiing!

Mark
