A brand new glove and a baseball bat
A ghostly mask or a fire engine hat
A ball that bounces up to the sky
A tree house constructed way up high

A favorite-colored balloon in hand
A bucket and shovel in a box of sand
A Tonka truck to carry big loads
A Hot Wheels car that is king of the roads

A teddy bear under my arm at night
A Snoopy sitting by my desktop light
A crystalline stone up on a shelf
A nearby small green plastic elf

A puzzle half-done and not quite clear
A coloring book with a brown and red deer
A G.I. Joe that is ready for war
A near-finished kit resembling a car

A bottle of bubbles to blow in the air
A spaceship flying fast from here to there
A Mighty Mouse flexing his muscles great
A water-wing set thatís tough to inflate

These are the precious toys of our past
We adored them to their very last
Wonderful memories of when we were boys
Having and loving our favorite toys

Andy,

It would be interesting to see how our attitudes towards toys changed once abuse entered our lives. Did we go from exulting in our toys to taking refuge in them, for example? It's not something I have thought about much, but your poem has stuck this bug in my head now. Thanks for sharing this with us and, as usual, for your honest and penetrating insights.

Much love,
Larry

Thanks, Andy. It made me think of and remember a lot of the toys from my past. Larry's comments above made me think about how some of my stuffed animals became much more meaningful to me as "protectors" through the night.
