it has been brought to the fore-front that sometimes posting youtube videos can be triggering to others. so i propose that from now on, either one of a few things happen, only out of respect for others.

1) we only send them through IM or PM to those to whom we want to see it, with a label as to what it is,

or

2) we post the title of the video or the subject, and then send the link.


just something for us to think about. let me know your thoughts.

i myself as a general rule do not click youtube links unless they are posted by someone who knows i have a specific interest in the subject at hand and with whom i share a certain clairvoyance regarding topics that are of shared interest.

if people want to share a link why create a rule to limit them? how would it be enforced?

posting with a trigger warning would afford individuals the opportunity to choose not to click open the links.

Such respect, and courtesy, is generally considered to be an unwritten rule here anyway. Not enforceable, and not always followed, but it is in mind here as a general suggestion.

right, but a lot of people wouldn't even consider something like this to be a disrespect. that's why i thought it to be a good idea to bring it to the fore-front.

i think the idea of posting what it is - or if it might be triggering is fine - but i doubt everyone follows it. nor do i think they should have to.

I'm going to weigh in with "when in doubt, ask" rather than put the responsibility on the poster.

"Is this a song that I might be triggered by?"

Maybe some useful dialogue follows too.
