Hi again Nathan (or whomever comes across this and can answer it),

I'm finally getting my own website together again and will have various social justice links on there - is it possible to link to MS? I scanned the home page and didn't see anything.

Let me know and if it is possible - that might be something to add to the home page so people can see it easily.

Indy

Hi Indy,

Not exactly sure what the policy is on linking to MS

I'll ask around and get back to you as soon as I can

I would think links to the site would be a positive thing. But of course, it depend on what it is linked from. A personal page or journal of a survivor or supporter, I would think that would be fine, because it would be directing people here who have reason to have interest of this site (positive interest, I mean). But to be linked to by a porn site? Or a Jonathan King Youtube video? Something like that, not so positive. So perhaps the rules in place are 'all or nothing'. I don't know, but I could understand why if it is.

However, there also use to be no links to personal sites allowed, and that has obviously changed. So it looks like we as a site are trying to bend and be flexible to some needs and wants of people. That is something nice.

adnrei you must be referring to some far distant time, because when i came here in 2003, personal links were already being used. yes, the flexibility factor is much appreciated. ron

Sorry. I had been under impression that links to personal sites had not been allowed until more recently. Perhaps I was confusing it to something else.

i am a web developer for work and in all seriousness, external links cannot be controlled. anyone can link to anything at any time, for any amount of time, and for any reason.

So where's the link already? ;-)
Just the idea of a website created by someone who knows "us" is exciting to me.
On a side-note; wow SL, i had no idea you've been around that long! You learn something new every day, as they say...

I hear you frost - I just wanted to do it legit and all - make sure I had permission if that was necessary -

yeah, I know I could put it up there if I really wanted to anyway - but won't do that -

so let's see what comes down the pipe about it -

I linked to it from my one profile on myspace. There's not much there right now, but I hope to grow it to a spot on myspace that points to healing resources for abuse victims.

Note this isn't a "personal profile" it doesn't contain personal info and what not. I have my main profile for that.

Indy,

If you wanted to provide a link to MS on your site that would be great! The more people who know of MS as the wonderful resource it is, the better.

As for providing links to other sites from here, it gets a bit sketchy for one very important reason, we have no control over where the link will ultimately go. We certainly don't want any direct links to a porn site or a hate site for instance and once a Mod sees such a post, it would be immediately removed.

The Mods can't vet every link that appears on this site and I think you will all agree that far from everywhere on the web is safe. While your facebook page may be perfectly harmless fun to you, if you invite someone else as a friend to that page, he could be terribly triggered by something found at that site or a link that was on that site. We don't like it for another reason....lots of facebook pages and myspace pages, etc. have very personal information. Once you're personal information is out there for any and all to see, you can't pull it back.

Friendships are fostered here, which is a good thing most of the time, but we all need to remember that not everyone here, just as in real life, will be a true friend. The raw emotions and relief at a connection that is found on this site can be overwhelming. Just the thought of someone who understands, really and truly, could cause you to throw caution to the wind, only to be hurt by it later.

I know it may sound heavy handed to some, but there have been too many instances in the past where people have been badly hurt because they were just looking for a friend.

ROCK ON......Trish
