I've never tried my hand at poetry. Nyjah writes any chance he can get, now sitting here watching him sleep I thought I'd give it a shot.

So small in a huge bed
Tubes everywhere
My baby boy fighting for his life
Losing weight so rapidly
So small, so innocent, so vulnerable

Could I have saved him?
Deep into my own pain and demons
I couldn't get out of the hole I was in
To see what was going on with my son
Running away, drugs, gangs

Signs so clear to others
I was completely blind
Out of it and distant
My son needed me
Cried out for me

Yet I had no idea
Blind
Deaf
Paralyzed with fear
Stuck in hell

Now I'm by his side
There's no way I will leave
Nurses try to usher me out
But I always come back in
Finally they have given up

My baby boy
Asleep in peace
Away from the pain
In his dreams
Safe under my watch

Nyjah, I promise you my son
No one will ever hurt you
I'm here now
I won't ever leave your side
I love you my son, with all my heart and soul.

Speaking "dad to dad" - your heart shines through your words. For a "first attempt" you have, in my opinion, not only expressed yourself incredibly clear - but you have conveyed more than thoughts - but emotions as well.

Thank you for giving us all a clear glimpse of what a father's love can look like.

Bakr,

I think your poem speaks for how all good fathers feel. And you know your boy is a fighter. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Much love,
Larry

Hey, a week ago my daughter threw herself out of a tree, her last Myspace post was "I have nothing left". What did I do? where have I messed up? She woke with tubes sticking out, bruises, and gave me the biggest smile I've seen in a long time, she said "I'm so happy you're here, I love you Daddy", she was in pain and just hour's earlier she wanted to "end it". Sitting in that hospital bed I haven't seen her spirits that high in a long long time. I played my role Wyclef, I cared. She isn't in a hospital bed because of what I didn't do, she's there because of what other's have done. She know's this and it's very clear in her head.

We're still trying, she's still here, and her knowing that she'll wake up everytime to see me sitting right there loving her every moment is everything to her. I can't fix her but I can give everything I've got. She know's that I will. It changes everything for her.

You're making all the difference Wyclef

Otherwise, I fear they just don't have that reason to get better.

Stay strong
Mike

Yes I agree Mike. Your daughter is in my thoughts and prayers, I hope that she has a speedy recovery and is able to get the help and guidance she needs.

I know that when I was absent Nyjah was looking towards others to fill the void of family. It's why he was going to join a gang...he hasn't told me that but I have a feeling that's why.
