I am part of them
And yet, I know I am not
An alien of sorts
I've always felt that way
But feel so even more since I have known
Invasion of the soul will do that to you
My body?
Yes, that's how he did it
The path he took
But bodies heal
And rather quickly when compared to other things
It was my soul that failed to heal
For I rolled it up and tucked it away
Much as the body does with things it cannot heal
And then the rupture
Then the poison
At some point the poison must be faced.

But I have come through that
I have
Amazing, is it not?
I, the wallower, or so some said
Though I was too busy fighting pain to wonder if I should put some label on the stuff
Amazing that that pain is gone
Or almost gone
Where to?
Just hiding now, or really gone?
The emptiness amazing
Like some vast warehouse once so full of awful stuff
Now suddenly swept clean and filled with nothing more than dust and air
Memories that once so pierced the heart
The object now of curiosity
A history of who I am and what took place
Like visiting the battle grounds of some great war
My own

I know that all others have their pain
And I do not value mine above their own
But still feel that, when you've been violated in this way
At your very core
When places in you have been opened up
Pried open by evil
For what else can you call it?
And you left there alone
With a soul so broken that you dare not look
Dare not see the shape it's in
And you but three or four years old
With a sudden understanding of life thrust on you
Thrust up between your loins
That you should not have had for years to come
Or never had, please God, in all His mercy
You are an alien of sorts
Because you have an understanding of love
And what it means
That cannot come from fairy tales
Or stories with sweet endings
But only from an injury
A pain that could have been healed by nothing else
And love, the kind that heals all wounds,
Means absolutely everything

Bobby,

What a great healing idea - drawing a distinction between an understanding of love that comes from injury and an appreciation of what love really is. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Much love,
Larry
