Hi Nyj

I considered doing it for some time, mostly for health reasons, but eventually I got to thinking that eating meat in MODERATION can't be THAT bad for you. So, yes, I eat meat, but not a lot of it.

Question for you Nyj, do you avoid dairy products as well? Like, no butter, cheese, (no pizza?) etc?

I would never deny the health benefits of a vegan diet. Vegans have lower rates of EVERYTHING bad, less heart problems, less cancer, less circulatory problems. The health benefits of eliminating meat out of one's diet are quite profound.

Yeah, all animal by prodcuts like meat, cheese, milk, dairy stuff like that. There are ways to have Pizza and other "regular" "non vegan" stuff because there are Vegan Pizza's and stuff like that. I'll find a link and see if I can post something on it.

I used to deliver groceries to both Wild Oats and Whole Foods stores so I am somewhat familiar with the vegan concept. Also to Fresh Fields stores years ago. Vegan chocolate chip cookies? How is that possible? (I used to haul them too).

Wild Oats is now owned by Whole Foods, and so is Fresh Fields. I think that Bristol Farms in the LA-area and Kowalski's Markets in the Twin Cities are still independant and the most likely to disappear soon. Even Vitamin Cottage here in Denver could be on the Whole Foods hit list.

Someday Whole Foods will be almost the only game in town. And then some people won't want to shop there.

I'm such an unrepentant carnivore and devourer of every kind of unhealthy trash. I read this thread and I feel like I've gone to Mars! \:\) Oh well. Maybe I should try this out for a month and see what the fuss is all about.

Much love,
Larry

I've heard it turns people green (ha ha)

Actually I have neighbors who are strict vegans. Husband and wife team without any children. I have eaten twice with them. Their food was quite tasty. They are the thinnest people I know. They are very well educated. It takes a lot of effort and education to get the proper nutrients on a vegan diet. Lots of beans and soy beans. Milk made of soy. Even cookies with imitation chocolate drops. I respect them but I think that it is quite difficult to do what they are doing without having a health problem.

HAHA, I'm right there with you, Larry. I can't imagine my life without "unhealthy trash" to eat. \:D And I'm sure it will be my undoing some day. \:\)

I think the only vegetables I like are potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, and okra. I don't think I would last long.

In the store that i work we have a section just for vegans, and it's true they can make just about anything, there are lots of different kinds of biscuits and cakes and things and bread and pasta and cereals, just all made for vegans so that they don't miss out on the yummy stuff but of course they are specialist foods so they are more expensive.

I'm an omnivore (is that right lol), sometimes pure carnivore too lol, i couldn't survive without meat

Reminds me of a time I took my kids to see the famous Museum of Natural History in London (I think that was the one). They have a T-Rex and my son explained to his little sister that these "scary bones" were from a "meatosaurus".

Much guiding,
Larry

I ate a raw-vegan diet for a while. It took a huge amount of work and planning (though less than some might think) but I must say - I never felt to physically good in my life as I did in those months.
