it rained today
steady and strong
the ground was so dry, so thirsty
but so hard most of the water ran off
yet the grasses drank
and the trees got their fill
whole mountains were washed clean of the dust
that remained from the dry spell
little rivulets ran down the gulleys and washes
further and further down
where they joined with others
and water rose
creeks bubbled along
tumbling over rocks
joining
rolling stones in their wake
now rivers fast
and still they joined with more
until the flood waters hit
and toppled trees
tore boulders from the ground itself
leaving devastation
and destruction
everywhere

it rained today
and i will never be the same

An incredible poem, Mark. It says a lot about how it all began, and then there was no stopping it.

But the clarity grows, and the rain washes away old stuff, and when the rain stops the clouds go with it, and you can see for miles.

You are fine my friend, and soooo worthy

Stay strong
Mike

Good poem Mark. I really like the image of the soft droplets merging and merging to form an unstoppable force of nature.

Yes and no, Eddie. This one I see two ways. When I wrote it, I was thinking along what you say here - it all can start so innocently and before you know it, it's out of control and you're devastated. But I also see it in the recovery light. Sometimes it's just a glimpse, a tiny piece of the puzzle from the past, it leads to another and another until we feel overwhelmed and destroyed by the deluge. But the "boulders" it released (unshakable fears) can now be cleared - and are no longer be places of stumbling. Our eyes washed clean of the dust of the past - we now see. Painful, feeling destroyed... But now the work of rebuilding can begin.

This one is odd (evey by my standards) because it seems to fit both scenarios for me. Guess that explains my moods right now - bouncing from one side to the other. Thanx for your comment.

Michael, what am I supposed to do here? You keep telling me stuff like this and one day I'm gonna believe you. Then what? I get this swelled ego and I can't wear my hats anymore.

;\) thank you

M

Mark,

Well, who needs hats after all? Except for baseball caps, which are all one size anyway. ;\)

Much love,
Larry

it rained today
and without shelter
i got rather damp
but at least i didn't have
expectations not met

so i worked extra hard
and replaced the stones
the boulders and rocks
replanted trees
until all looked as it did before

and if i stand guard
maybe i can hold back the flood
the next time
it rains

it's a never ending struggle with nature. Ours ...or God's.

Thanks for the further insight, Mark. I really like the way the poem can be interpreted two ways, which makes it very powerful.
