war is hell

so is famine hunger and
that poor young thing on the TV screen

(daddy doesn't know how it happened to his little girl.
isn't she still four?)

but then again there's those blurry face daddies and
mothers who know the sweet taste of The Captain
more than the cry of her little angel

they're hard to explain. and how

can we explain the men tying rope in knots
because of the color of her skin or
the tilt of his cap or
where their great great great great granddaddy
was born.

i don't understand. why

do people make others 2nd place?
one rung down the ladder?
because of the way they talk or
walk or love or give birth
(or choose not to) or who they pray to
or the way they LIVE.

why does it happen?

Andy B.

Andy,

I think people fear what they do not know, and prefer to live in ignorance about what they fear. That's the essence of prejudice.

Much love,
Larry

I just re-read this Andy. Now, I'm having second thoughts as to just WHAT this is supposed to be about. I thought I had it right the first time when I figured that it was mostly about why wars happen. Now, after a period of prolonged reflection, I'm not so sure. Can you help me out here?

It's not complex...just asking why we do all that stuff...it makes me sad there's so many divisions between us as humans -- self-imposed divisions.

I don't understand it all.
