3 Different interpretations of Hallelujah
which one do you prefer ...

Rufus Wainwright
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkanrzZm6OU

Jeff Buckley
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsa_xWLOghg&feature=related

kd lang
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_NpxTWbovE&feature=related

I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this: the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe I've been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you let me know
What's real and going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dark was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there's a god above
And all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It's not a cry you can hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I personally like the kd lang version

Jeff Buckley is only one I had heard before. I like his 'Satisfied Mind' also, and most the other music of his I have heard.

I'm personally a rufus wainright fan, ---- though i do like the Buckly version.

Probably it's that the first time I heard the song was the truncated version in shrek, ---- which also got me into rufus, and I'm now in the process of knicking all my friend's Cd's of him, lol!

I also do like it because it's one of the few things i can actually play the accompanyment for as I sing it, which is fun.

Buckley's version is by far my favorite version.

I love this song I like hearing how people interpret its meaning I think you could ask five people and they would all tell you it has a different meaning for themselve

I vote for K.D. - I think musically, she is has the most talent - her phrasing is amazing.... but I love all versions.

i have listened to them all over again,

carefully i evaluated each one.

based on the 'chill factor' (remember i go by frost here)... Jeff Buckley is the only one that gives me chills.

that being said, I'll stick with my initial statement that Jeff Buckley owns this song for me \:\)

Rufus takes 2nd place

oddly enough the aussie idol I think takes third.

Gotta love Buckley's version. My dad can play it on the trumpet, Chris Botti (trumpet player) does an awesome job of it too.
