A simple yes or no will suffice, but feel free to add details, excuses, etc.
I've been procrastinating all week and have a beautifully manicured lawn (front and back), immaculately clean house, a fresh oil-change for my car, and an organized garage to show for it!
What about you?

I can't say "yes" or "no" to this lol
I can only say that we shouldn't be paying an income tax in the FIRST PLACE. It's MY damned money, I worked for it, I'm the one that gets up early in the morning and works all day, it's MINE, not the omnipotent Federal Government's. The suspect constitutionality of the tax itself aside, it's just plain WRONG.
The Founding Fathers intuitively knew that direct taxation, such as this income tax, was all too easily abused by those that would be in power.
In my readings, I've come to conclude that taxation should be as INDIRECT as possible, some examples being excise, tariffs, sales taxes, etc.
The inherent beauty of this systems is that they LIMIT the scope of power of the government's ability to interfere and meddle in the affairs of our individual lives. Simply put, when they too heavily tax, say, sugar, the consumers simply stop buying as much, and the tax revenues go down as a consequence. Thus, they CAN'T tax in excess. This self-limiting principle is not thought of about much now of course, because entire generations have gone buy without even knowing what it's like to not have, for instance, this dreaded income tax.
The evil of the income tax is that, with the exception of dealing in the black market, you have NO CHOICE. What are you going to do? Not work, not feed and provide for your family? This income tax has created a cornucopia of money for this government of ours now.
It allowed them to decide what kind of health care you can have, what kind of schools your children must attend, what kinds of drugs you may buy, they pay for anti-smoking campaigns while they at the same time subsidize tobacco farmers. They're paying for basketball courts and housing and programs to manage the Brown Tree Snake population on the Island of Guam. They're paying for all sorts of wonderful things, courtesy of YOURS and MY hard earned money.
Ok, I'll shut up now.
Formertexan? Would you care to elaborate on this subject?

Yes
Federal I owed money (it was only $36 but still) so I wasn't exactly hurrying to finish them even though you can tell them when to debit your checking account, so I finished mine in late march.
State (NJ) New Jersey is far more liberal with the medical deductions (don't have to spend as much to start deducting), so they owed me $75, so that was filed, late January, early February

Hauser,
The Grace Commission back in the 80s determined that the personal federal income tax goes only to pay interest on the national debt. Why are we doing this? I didn't sign the note for this debt. Did anyone else? But this happens everytime a debt/fiat money system is established. It was no accident that the Federal Reserve Act was passed the same year that the 16th Amendment (income tax with no regard to apportionment) was declared ratified. The Fed had to have some way to easily collect their interest payments. So these collectors of tribute are taking our hard-earned cash and paying off bankers with it. I sure wish I could be a stockholder of the Fed.
By the way, the progressive income tax and the central bank are both planks of the Communist Manifesto.

I finally got them to my accountant on Thursday. Due to my own accountant's advice, I only get about $300 back (which, in some ways, is good) and that just about covers his fees. At least I have the $600 economic stimulus check to look forward to.

I don't understand taxes. It' sounds really complicated. Yep. Complicated, frustrating, and inevitable -- just like death!

I got mine done a few weeks ago .... got them to the accountant ... and got the VERY BAD news back about ten days ago. What irritates me is that I work so DAMN HARD ... have to pay an additional $3,000 but the young kid in front of me at the grocery store is buying T-bone steaks with food stamps ... while I am getting a loaf of bread and peanut butter.
The taxes have been done for ten days ... but they didn't get mailed until yesterday ... not going to let the government have MY HARD EARNED MONEY any sooner than they should.

Finished them up about 5:30 this AM by doing the e-file thing. Will be getting back a tidy little sum from the Federalees and about a third that much from Oregon.
Used Turbo Tax for the first time. Definitely easier and less expensive than a tax accountant!

Finished up Federal last night. I get to keep some of MY money. Got confirmation from TurboTax just now.
No STATE taxes. Tennessee does it right. Just a sales tax.
Don't like the taxes either, One of the reasoned I hearted Huckabee.

"Tennessee does it right."
A few short years ago, the Tennessee legislature attempted to introduce an income tax. Word got out to the people and they sent the legislature a huge message that they were not to pass that into law. I still have articles on it. Citizen activism DOES work.

How do states pay for roads, programs, etc etc with just sales tax? Is half the state in disarray?

Last I heard, roads are paid for by excise taxes on gasoline and tires, except for fees charged on toll roads.

It all comes from somewhere, so what difference does it make if they take it out of your check or charge you $20 more for a tire? *shrug*

We the taxpayers don't just get hit once, we get hit TWICE with this crap. How? Well, first, they TAKE our money at the point of a gun, (just try not paying your taxes), then they SPEND the money, the result being over-regulation, distortions of the economy, cause malinvestmen, etc.
I'm sick and tired of filling out forms, the methods they use to collect the taxes are unconstitutional, (you're guilty until proven innocent), we have to keep meticulous records, we have to testify against ourselves if we get audited, etc. This is all bullshit.
But this really isn't the problem, it's the SYMPTOM of a government that's out of control. SPENDING oversees, SPENDING domestically. We don't like out taxes increased, so the politicians placate us by simply printing more money to pay for their wonderful new "programs". Meanwhile, they're debasing the currency, (the dollar is swirling around the drain in case you're not up on the financial news), the dollar is only worth 3% of what it was in 1913, when the Central Bank was created. So, big banks with connections to the Fed, get BILLIONS in corporate welfare while the middle and working class get bilked because those big banks get to spend the newly printed money before the inevitable inflation comes along as a result of the flood of new currency comes into the market.
Oh well, in a 100 years, who here is gonna care?

Ya know, we didn't have the personal federal income tax until 1913. One has to wonder how we managed before it was instituted. We didn't have the central bank siphoning off our wealth until 1913. The Grace Commission determined that the federal income tax goes to pay interest on the national debt. Get rid of this fraud called the national debt, and the personal federal income tax can go with it.
