A small victory for me

I won a small victory for myself today: I called in sick. Every time I don't feel well, I contemplate calling in sick to stay home but I always manage to convince myself that I don't deserve it, that my boss is depending on me, and my obligations to my job outrank my physical needs. Today, I woke up feeling like crap: the slight cold I had earlier in the week has decided to take a vacation in my lungs. No big deal, but I sound like Harvey Fierstein and I've got a low-grade fever. I dithered about whether or not I should stay home when finally the mature and adult Dan took charge and said "No. Your first priority is to take care of yourself." So I am.

I'm glad you're not listening to that "you don't deserve it" voice in you. In fact you do deserve it. It's why you have the benefit, so why shouldn't you use it? Get lots of rest! Hope you feel better soon!

Good job man! Fantastic! Standing up for yourself is a big step. I learned to do that a number of years back by the boss I had at the time. He was a cowboy boot wearing, functioning alcoholic, who didn't take crap from anyone. Good guy though. He's go out of his way to help anyone respected, and the only people he didn't respect was anyone lazy. He couldn't stand lazy people. Learned from him to stand up for myself, was cool. One of those fellows that came along, took me under his wing, and when he finally moved on, I was strong enough to fly higher than I ever had before. I'll never forget those lessons!
Two Thumbs up for you man!
Now rest and get better!

Dan,
Good job! Feels great to come first for a change, doesn't it?
But don't listen to Robbie Brown. The shows you want are CSI, Judge Judy and any Warner Brothers cartoons you can find.
Much love, Larry

Thanks for the notes, guys. I just woke up from a lovely nap and now It's time I had some breakfast. I checked in at work and everyone is managing to cope without me for a day. I can't recall the last time I called in sick or just took a personal mental health day. It feels good. I still don't feel good, yet, and I'm kind of miffed to be out of commission, but my mind and body need the rest! Good suggestions on TV, thanks -- but I've got my 7-season box set of Buffy to work through! When I'm lucid enough, I want to post about the awesome session I had with my couples T on Tuesday. I'll check in later! Dan
