i'm listening to luciano pavarotti- album ti adoro
song Neapolis

i find lots of his songs powerful and empowering, i know the guy himself was nothing special, but i played his music really loud in respect for him when he died, my neighbour didn't mind, he was playing it too(but he's like 60 years older than me lol)

The first one was the best I think, 1990 world cup in Italy ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Tenors

and I think the one song that captured the worlds attention was
Pavarotti's signature song, Nessun Dorma - it was a spine chilling moment \:\)

Pavarotti said the nicest thing that happened to him, was when he was walking through A large square in Rome.
A woman crashed into him on her bicycle, and she said, I am awfully sorry, but I didn't see you.

The great man had a gr8 sense of humour,

I think he is one of the best tenors of all time - he gets a bum rap for being too "mainstream", but I think he help bring a lot of fans to operatic music who would otherwise turn up their noses at it.

When my daughter was about 3, I was listening to Turndot, and when Nessun Dorma was playing, at the climax, she dropped the toy she was playing with and just raised her arms... that's poweruful

That's it right there. He did so much more than anyone else to turn opera into a musical form that everyone could feel they could enjoy.

Much love,
Larry

Funny thing with me about opera, I either love it or hate it (depending on the piece I'm hearing). I've never heard an opera piece where I just said "oh...it was ok." I always seem to find it either totally enthralling or utterly atrocious. grin
I have liked pretty much everything I've heard Poverotti do though.

Ok so not Pavarotti. Try to find the Pearl Fishers Duet by Bizet. Its a duet for two male voices. Its beautiful. And if you can understand the French it will add to the meaning.

Hope you enjoy as much as I do.

Jim
