People are illogical, unreasonable & self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you may win false friends & true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty & frankness may make you vulnerable.
Be honest & frank anyway.

The biggest men & women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the
smallest of men & women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favour underdogs but only follow top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help them anyway.

Give the world the best you have & you may get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

Like all words of wisdom

We all need that proverbial kick in the ass.

Love this thread! Great quote, Craig. I almost wish you had thought it up all by yourself, I'd give you the copyright! (Actually, copyrights are weird things and you don't need anybody to 'give' it to you. You can claim it at any time, anywhere, and if you simply put 'Copyright 2008 EJMoreau' or something, it's yours forever unless challenged in court. Just my $0.02)

Thanks for the kick in the ass!

figured it was time for another quote that rox my sox
This is from a book by Paulo Coelho called "Warrior of the Light: A Manual"

A warrior of the light knows that certain moments repeat themselves.

He often finds himself faced by the same problems & situations & seeing these difficult situations return,
he grows depressed thinking he is incapable of making any progress in life.

"I've been through this before." he says to his heart.

"Yes you have been through this before," replied his heart. "But you have never been beyond it."

Then the warrior realizes that these repeated experiences have but one aim.
To teach him what he does not want to learn.

Craig,

I really like both of your contributions to this thread. I think we need to hear - and act on - more things like this. We need to bear in mind that there are certain things we only lose if we throw them away.

Much love,
Larry

yes, those words were truly inspired. i believe they, or a litany in a similar format, are attributed to the late mother theresa.

another of my favorites of hers:

We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little,we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.
Mother Teresa

Another Paulo Coelho quote. My personal favorite from "11 minutes"

Once upon a time there was a prostitute called Maria. Wait a minute, "Once upon a time" is how all the best children's stories begin and "prostitute" is a word for adults. How can I start a book with this apparent contradiction? But since, at every moment of our lives, we all have one foot in the fairy tale and the other in the abyss, let's keep that beginning.

From "Parenting From the Inside Out" by Daniel J Siegel

When we get overwhelmed & become immersed in our implicit memories of painful events or unresolved losses it is difficult to be present. Our automatic adaptations to these earlier experiences then become "who we are" & our life story becomes written for us, not by us. The intrusions of unresolved issues can directly affect how we know ourselves & how we interact.

When unresolved issues are writing our life story we are not our own autobiographers; we are merely recorders of how the past continues, often without our awareness to intrude on our present experiences & shape our future direction.
We are no longer making thoughtful choices about how we want to act, but rather are reacting on the basis of experiences in our past. It is as if we forfeit our ability to choose our direction & put ourselves on automatic pilot without knowing
where the pilot is taking us.
