Nicky,

I agree this is a very triggery thing to see. I will put a trigger warning on it, okay? The photo of the perp staring out at the viewer is especially disturbing.

But I liked the statement by the police officer at the end: "Polk County’s Children are 24% of our population, but they are 100% of our future."

Much love,
Larry

It says in the article that they were caught while using "file-sharing" programs, and one of the men under arrest mentioned this as well.

What is raising MY eyebrows after reading this is the possible notion that the police are actually distributing it themselves in order to catch people. I don't KNOW this, but how else do you catch them via file sharing? This isn't a an unreasonable suspicion. Police set up drug busts while posing as sellers all the time, in other words, they pretend to be actual criminals, in order to catch criminals. And I find it disturbing that the police might actually be distributing it themselves in order to ..................catch criminals. I didn't SAY that they're doing this, but I think some clarification is in order.

Wow, half the people are way younger than me...and I'm 26. It's sad to see so many young people into that. I hope in prison they get the help they need to stop. Or else they'll just do it again. \:\(

But sadly most likely they won't. The cycle turn, turn, turns.

I like the fact that many ppl are being arrested fro all that stuff. What I am concerned about is how much time they are going to spend in jail. They are not going to spend that much as far as I am concerned, that I think is what pisses me off the most. The other day I read an article where a man molested over 600 victims and was sentenced to only three years. WOW that is all I have to say. I hear all this news reals and articles about child molesters I get really really saddened that they are not spending that much time in prison. As an argument stated above I hope that they get help. I hear that they need help but you just like me was molested and we made the choice NOT to touch kids like that. They should be punished for what they did. They too made a choice. Sorry if the letter seems bitter. I just want to get my feelings across. I am not trying to step on anyones feet. \:\)

Florida, I think. The perp looks like he's been chased by too many gators.

There's a Polk county in Minnesota -- at first I thought it was that. Phew..

If you must know, Polk County is in Oregon, the only state that matters! \:D And it was beavers that chewed on the guy, not gators as Larry suggested.

In the end it doesn't matter. These guys were sharing kiddie porn and should pay the price.

I think what Hauser is concerned about is a thing called "entrapment". Running a Sting operation is a very close cousin to planting evidence. Many an overzealous police officer has been guilty of entrapment. I remember a case years ago now where law enforcement sent kiddie porn via the US Postal Service to a man at random. That evening after he got his mail out of the rural route mail box they swooped in and busted him for possession of child porn. He was rightfully found not guilty and the police officers were charged with entrapment.

walking,
ah okay. yeah that entrapment thing sucks. but this was a ring. so not just one guy's mailbox. the only way to get into that ring is to pose as interested parties.. take it from me... that shit its pretty well thought out and monitored. any hesitation and the kiddy porn isnt sent to people. acutally.. i woudl think its more a web than a ring. it might start off as a ring but it spreads. i think the issues happen when it gets passed to someone who is "on the list" and then he passes it to someone else who the oringal company doesnt know, or clear. but the main company is really covert. its hard to trace it back to them. unles one of the guys gets into the the main disrtribution lines. he needs to be one of the first recievers. and that takes time, organization and patients on the cops end if they are trying to pose as interested guys. its not like you can just bang on the door at some warehouse and bust it like a drug bust. its all electronic...

that was a rant.. sorry. haha i should shut up now.
