There are some who would have us believe that the reason antidepressants don't work is because our psychological problems are really caused by the fact that we're all possessed by the ghosts of aliens massacred in a holocaust perpetrated by an evil galactic overlord 75,000,000 years ago.

Indeed, some advocates of this theory have been known to jump up and down on furniture on nationwide TV screaming about the evils of antidepressants.

Me, I know that I've experienced better living through chemistry, so I'm quite skeptical.

I think good ol' Irving had some serious issues of his own. I know for me, after my Mom died suddenly of a heart attack, anti depressants were the only thing that kept me going and able to function. People who say that anti depressants don't work don't know jack! I needed them to help get me over the worst hump of my life, and then I weened myself off of them about 8 mo. later. I don't know how I would have been without the help they gave me.

I think they definitely do something. Took my first pill and 3 hours later I was number than a brick wall. My wife could have said she was leaving and I wouldn't have felt a thing. Major shock to my system for sure. Things are more even now emotionally I think. Still not where I want to be, so we'll see where things go.
