I met with a psychiatrist yesterday. After stopping my prior med's for the 2nd. time, I decided I needed to get back on meds. My past med's were not working for me at all.

Just one week ago today, I had to resign my job position and go back to my old position. This was no doubt one of the hardest and upsetting things I had to do in a long time. I was on the verge of a total collapse last weekend. I almost "lost it".

So now I am starting Effexor for depression and Cyproheptadine for nightmares.

I know I cannot take any more of the "lows". I get so depressed, I have a hard time just getting through the day. And then with the nightmares, I can't get through the nights either.

Reading the "side effects" is also scaring me.

Any thoughts or suggestions regarding these med's would be appreciated.

Ken

Hi Ken

like yourself I decided I need to get back on meds again too

I also resigned from job today (just started it last week)
I can't deal with any new "disorganization" right now
(you ain't alone bro!)

The only thing about Effexor I would mention is that there are 2 different kinds
Difference is "speed" at which the drug enters our systems

Effexor XR is slower (XR is short for extended release)
I could tolerate it better than Effexor which amped me up bigtime & made me overly anxious

Hope you find the peace you need & this information helpful!

Don't read the side effects. You are to suggestive right now. Just take them and see how they work. All medications are patient sepcific. Just see how they work for you. Hang in there big Ken.

Find someone you trust and that knows you very well that you can tell you are taking medications and whose opinion you would trust if it weren't helping or making things worse in some way.

Update on med's.

Thanks guys for your input. I am now 3 weeks on new meds. Most of the side effects are either going away or I am able to deal/cope with them. I really had a hard time not feeling like myself. But I am now cutting back on doses and it seems to be working.

Yes, my GF says I am easier to live with now. Guess that is good news for both of us.

Ken
