Is it worth the pain to go after someone for something so long ago that nothing will probably come from it? Is there hope of getting an conviction in an old case?

Hi Jen,

Just wanted to say I saw your post and give it a bump. I know that several of the men here have pressed charges and I'm sure they'll respond.

ROCK ON..........Trish

You still may be able to file a civil suit and get him listed in the public eye, if not with the police as a sex offender and blacken his name. It may save others even if the time has run out on legal limitations. just a thought

I spoke with a detective who said that in Washington state at least you only have till you are 21. Can you believe that? My husband was only out of the abuse for a year and a half at that point, and he was scared to death of him. It's very sad. We can do a civil case and I have a call into an attorney in Seattle that does only these type of cases. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the replies. \:\) I love this site, not why we all are hear, but the love and support warms me deeply.

The states have different laws regarding statutes of limitations. Sometimes it is up to a particular age, sometimes a certain time to file after the crime. Sometimes, if it is from a "charitable institution" like a church or school, there are differences as well. Some states count the time from when it is remembered first in cases of blocked memories.

Again, civil and criminal statutes are different.

Best to check (for free) with the DA or prosecutor who handles sex crimes in the jurisdiction where the crime took place.

I did check with them, same answer, after 21 all bets are off, at least criminally. We are looking into civil. Thanks!!
