i have been practicing yoga for 2 years
self taught from dvd's, books borrowed from the library & YouTube videos
have meant to go to a class, get some in the flesh instruction & gulp... touch guidance to deepen the pose
but I am a huge isolator
& the most I have been touched by anyone in these 2 years has been by my tattoo artist
but that might be another post
the earth spins at 20,000+ miles per hour & we are on a 23.5 degree angle relative to its surface
(told you I was a science geek in a previous post)
add walking, running, stomping out of a room in anger, sleeping restlessly etc
is it any wonder we get so "bent out of shape"?
add our emotional experiences & kaBOOM!
been dissociated/disconnected for most of my life
I HAVE to believe in the possibility of "rightness" in something, the safeness of my location for want of a better term
& what better place to start than with the structure that supports our being
bones & joints have positions for optimal movement, relaxation & rejuvenation
yoga, like Feldenkrais, Pilates & the Alexander technique teaches these positions
yoga is also non competitive & can be practiced by anyone regardless of age or physical abilities
something about that inclusiveness combined with feeling part of a heritage... a lineage dating thousands of years
lets just say my "earth" family is more comforting than my "birth" family
i wanted to bump mgb's original post back into "existence" to hear others experiences, thoughts & philosophies
namaste
