I'm not really sure where this one came from, but I thought this morning on some things I used to do for fun as a child, and tried to put myself in that child's mind for a while. What was important to him (me) when he (I) was little? Survival was important, but so were the things an everyday boy is into: games and play.

Treehouses, clubhouses, forts of all kinds
Made with used wood, they really donít mind
The rules change each minute of the day
As fun abounds where the boys play

Iím king of the hill, and I say so quite loud
Says one boy in overalls, tall and proud
Make-believe battle ensues, come what may!
Itís all in good fun where the boys play

Step in my spaceship and weíll travel real far
To fight intense battles of solar war
Weíve worlds to see in the deep milky way
The sky is the limit where the boys play

Tag is a game which never wears out
Iíll dart as you chase, and choose a new route
Come and get me, excited, I say.
Tired, exhausted, where the boys play

Let us explore these open spaces
Seek out old caves, some new hiding places
The landscape invites us to spend the day
Climbing and hiking where the boys play

Get out the garden hose, have a blast
You might get soaked, so run real fast
Didnít quite make it, got a big spray
A water fight rules where the boys play

Down goes the sun, itís all said and done
Sad that itís over, it sure was fun
Weíll return to conquer another day
Tomorrow is ours, where the boys play

This is SO WAY KEWL! (Little Mark expression)

Every game you mention gets wide grins from my inner child.
Thank you for reminding me that I was actually lucky enough to "have a life" in the middle of all the abuse. Memories of it may be as clouded as the ones of the abuse - but they do exist, and it's nice to think on them.

That sounds so much like fun. I wonder if I ever did that. I wish I could remember.

I remember days like that, Andy. What cool memories this brings up. There were some fun times to be sure, were there not? You poem tells me there were.

Lots of love,

John

Andy,

There's so much wonderful stuff in that poem. Fun as conquest - great idea! And the spaceship? Hmmmmmm. Would that be the "Enterprise"? \:D

Much love,
Larry

In a huge way you reminded me that I had a great boyhood when the adults were away and childish freedom reigned. I spent a lot of time on the Missouri river(I lived less than 1/2 mile from it) adventuring with no cares other than the ones that returned with the adult worlds' intrusion. It brings a warm feeling of the sun on my face in spring and the laughter accompanying willows bending under my weight as I climbed anticipating the ride back to the earth. Those moments kept me excited about life which otherwise would have been unbearable. I appreciate your gentle reminder which made "Danny" smile at the memories.
THANK YOU ANDY! :-)
My heart feels full of love right now. I wish I could share those freeing childhood moments with everyone who knows the sad expressions of the grown up Dan.

Larry,

"Would that be the "Enterprise"?"

Is there any other?

Silly me. Of course not! I was just being rhetorical I guess. Oh but wait a minute! What about the Disney spaceships, the ones with the cool fins? Fins they would sit on when they landed on the moon? \:D

But that was probably before your time, son. ;\)

Much dreaming,
Captain Larry
