I registered this because it is the name I use most places, but I've been informed that it makes some people uncomfortable.

However, in order to change it, I'd have to register a new account and abandon this one...

I'm not sure which I should do. Is my user name bad? I don't want to offend anybody. It was never my intent...

It made me laugh! Because I often refer to myself as "one sick puppy"! I guess I just understand how you feel and why you would use it. Hope others are really not offended by your name...
I say keep it until YOU want to be know as something else here!!!
Peace,
Ron

Sick Puppy

IMHOFWIW (In My Humble Opinion For What Its Worth)
there is nothing specifically or particularly wrong with your user name.

The discomfort some seem to be feeling may be due to the use of "sick puppy" to refer to one who does something sick, which might bring bad things to mind for them.

However this does not exhaust the meaning of sick puppy, which more literally would be a puppy who is sick, not does sick things (that could be a "sickening puppy"?).

There probably isn't a user (or real) name here that couldn't be offensive, triggering & downright
scary to somebody.

So for now I would say make your own decision about whether to continue using this user name or not.

That's my thots on any user name that is not offensive in the sense of being beyond the guidelines and the purpose of this site.

Victor

Sick puppy: If you are comfortable with it so am I. I was opne sick puppy for a long time and now I guess I am a sick old dog being 62. The imprtrant thing is that you are here with us and that is all that matters.
I think you have a lot of courage and are a remarkable survivor.

I read you post about sexual orientation and can only offer up what I myself went through. I was physically abused by male members of my mother's and father's family as well as by my father. I do not recall being sexually abused by any of them. Whil this was happening and when I came in the house with a broken bone or bloodied the women would comment that I must have hurt myself and go get cleaned up. Later when I was violently sexually assaulted at Military College for 9 months it was by three upper classmen. One thing led to another and I became a males hustler for 3 1/2 years catering to the more violent and kinky men in Ottawa Canada. The only contact I had with the female sex was with other street kids. We enjoyed sex with each other because it was safe and consensual. This was with both girls and boys.

When I was 26, like another who posted I met and fell in love with my present wife of 35 years. During our marriage sex has been very difficult at best. And during our marriage I have reenacted encounters with men to satisfy my addiction to violence involving sex. It was this that led me to seek help at 56 years of age. I am a healed heroin addict a member of 11 for 26 years and have avoided physical re-enactment since I was 56. What is my sexual orientation. I have not got a clue. I do know that I am comfortable with my wife and that is what really matters. ONE DAY IN YOUR OWN GOOD TIME YOU WILL FIND SOMEONE TO LOVE AND SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH AND BELIEVE ME YOU WILL KNOW WHEN IT HAPPENS. You have been a victim of circumstance and had no say in how you came into the world or in whose company. You have been abused and that colours eveything. Heal my brother and then we can just call you PUPPY when you tell us it is all right.

FYI....

There was a guy who used to hang with us in chat about 6 months ago, went by the name of "Hurting". I got to know him fairly well. So after a while, we got on his case about the name. He seemed to be really doing well. Well one night he popped in to chat, wearin his new nick. He'd chosen "Healing Brother". We were rather emotional. (BTW, I just checked with him if it's ok to post this story here, and he said it's ok) So, IMHO, you change your name when you are ready. And you will know when the time is right....

Peace

Orodo
