She came out of the hospital room with her head down
And when she stood before us,
It took only a moment
The smile of recognition burst through her fog
And she grabbed and hugged me, nothing said
Then to her husband.
She leaned into him, arms grasping his shoulders
A sigh.

We sat at the table and looked at each other
She gave new meaning to lost in thought
Her dementia worsened by the week.

Her husband wiped his eyes
He didnít want to cry in front of me
But his sorrow was true
This never before emotional man let his tears fall.

I wonder if this will be my fate
And if so, who will cry for me?

Then another wanderer in the fog
Came down the hall to where we sat
And asked if we were waiting for a cab.
We said no.

Froggy,

I don't think any of us are really ready for such experiences. They remind us too much of our mortality and the fact that anything can happen to us at any time. And if such a thing does happen, who will mourn for us? Rough stuff, that's for sure.

Much love,
Larry
