Mark,
I'll just say that in my own case I think that perhaps the real breakthrough came when I could no longer deny that others saw far more in me than I did. I finally had to consider seriously the possibility that the bad feelings I had about being me were wrong.
What made this especially scary was that I had so many bad feelings about myself; if one was wrong, maybe all were wrong. Was I to reject everything I thought about being me? Where would that leave me? I didn't know, and that was the real risk, I guess.
We just have to be willing to take the risks, Mark, or at least that's what my experience tells me. I will say, though, that it was a lot easier to do that with the support I received here.
Much love, Larry

Mark, and when i re-learn about myself when i discover the "real me" what do i do when i don't like what i find???? I think all of us discover things we don't like about ourselves, but what counts is that what we are discovering is real - it's the "me" that's been there all along. And the things we don't like are things we can work on. willing to take risks alone ... not exactly the best offer i've ever heard True, but it's the only genuine offer on the table. Or at least that's been my experience. Much love, Larry

True, but it's the only genuine offer on the table. somehow that's not the most encouraging news i've ever heard.

"but since i can't accept myself how can i be expected to believe it when someone else says they accept me"
this may be confusing but...
it was through someone else's acceptance of my not being able to accept myself that i came to believe someone else's acceptance of me
i felt "felt" & accepted
hope this helps

Hey M
believing or trusting one is accepted is no easier than revealing oneself to be accepted believed or trusted in you're halfway home & your goodness is a given that can never BE taken away
(being poetic cuz heck this is the poetry section... lol)

Mark, ... and yes, i see the glass half-gone ... I think this is one of the really big challenges we face - learning to focus on what there is to recover and restore than than what has been lost. That doesn't mean we dismiss the importance of the loss, just that we recognize the past can't be changed or redone and try to focus on what we can do now and tomorrow, and the day after that .... Much love, Larry
