WHEN ďMEEKĒ IS NEARLY ENOUGH

When I look at my life and wonder why not
I also think of the why.
Could I have been much more than I am
if I hadnít been so shy?
Feeling less than an equal of other men
who move and seem to fly
through lifeís little mazes without a thought
and donít even have to try.
They take what they want;
step on toes;
never bat an eye.
With no regard for the damage they inflict
Ignoring their victims cry
To save just a piece of the world for us
even the crumbs of godís great pie
would be enough for the meek to have
we are easy to satisfy.

Great poem. I struggle w/ meekness, or more 'passivity' and just accepting the status quo. Your poem really makes a distinction between the meek and overly strong/exploitive types. Somewhere in the middle there is balance, so that one doesn't have to be meek or step on toes to get what they want.

Totally agree. I have also struggled with passivity and just acepting the status quo. A good part of my life I have just acted as if I had no choice but to deal with whatever the world handed me.
You want me to......sure; you think I'm.......you're probably right; you want me to relenquish.......here it is.
BUT..it's a new day dawning and a lot of people are taken aback when I assert myself now. (sometimes, even I'm surprised)

Thanks for the response,
Dan

The ancient Romans looked for war horses they called "meek" - power under control. Gives an interesting new slant to being "meek" without being "milk toast"

I wonder what Jesus meant by "the meek" when he said they would inherit the earth?

I really like the poem, dancr. Here is some of what I thought, when I read it.

There's a lot to be said for not stepping on toes, not inflicting damage, and not creating victims. I have also been shy for the most part during my life, and I realize it has held me back. Since I've begun recovery, though I have met people who aren't shy and seem to be able to navigate the maze. The good thing though, is that I seem some of these people as my friends... those who won't step on toes... those who won't victimize me or anyone else....those I can trust. That's a very good feeling. I am happy for them. I am happy to know them, and I am happy that I think I am becoming more like them, as I continue my recovery.

Just some of my thoughts.

Keith

My guess would be the same thing the Romans of that day meant.

Power under control
