Hi,
So what does she talk to you about in therapy? Does she discuss the sex abuse with you or does she avoid that altogether?

Did she indicate how long it would take for memories to surface? What does she mean by an "inner clock"? One thing you must do is determine what her plans are for therapy-if she is a real professional she should have a reasonable idea of what your difficulties are and how they can be approached and solved. It is nice to have a friend to talk to but she is more than a friend, she is someone you are paying to provide a service to you. She should know what she is doing.

I am mentioning these things because they are things you should be considering-don't settle for less. It is your life.

By the way John Bradshaw uses hypnosis in his practice to retrieve memories.

Good luck.

Hi,
I only went to her for some help with easing my insomnia about a year ago. I go to psychotherapist otherwise. And she is not the friend I was speaking of. i am aware of the difference between 'friend' and 'healthcare professional.'
Apparently what she meant by 'inner clock' is that each body and its subconscious, has a specific time schedule, if one upsets that schedule by pushing the memories, the body may feel terribly overwhelmed.
I am aware of John Bradshaw, I've been to a few of his seminars, interesting guy.
Thanks,
imp

I shuld have explained better. I have already confronted my abuser, and it went really well, but im still having problems, and wondering if i was abused further by other people. My therapist, like i said, is catious about hypno therapy. She really hasn't mentioned it one way or another, hasn't really talked about it. I'm the one who's more interested in it. My memories are sort of fuzzy, and i want to remember better. I know you should just try and let memories resurface on thier own, but if i can't get my head together once i leave home, i have to do something, you know?

Hi,

Another thought is that the defense system you and I have built up (by choice and automatically) is there to prevent you from remembering things concerning the abuse so that you could survive as a child and continue to progress, although with difficulty, thru the developmental stages to adulthood.

In essence what I am saying is that your defense system has continued into adulthood and memories may never surface unless you force them to the surface, why would they come out on their own(?) except when certain events happen in life that act as a stimulus for remembering especially when you have been out of the situation such as marriage or the birth of a child or death of a parent.

Therefore your therapist telling you to wait patiently for them to come out may be a futile effort unless she is doing something else besides hypnosis to retrieve them.
