So, what is your favorite 'cheer-up' movies?
I need to replentish my repatoir(i kno i spelled that wrong), cause I'm runnin kinda low at this point, so any suggestions, no matter what type or kind, everything from disney to westerns, anything would really help, thanks.

I'm with Chris on this one: Mel Brooks classics like "The Producers" (old version with Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder), "Blazing Saddles", and "Young Frankenstein".
But there IS one I bet most of you have never seen, but is just hilarious in the most unintentional ways. It's a 1950s sci-fi thing called "The Angry Red Planet", where astronauts go to Mars. The>

A good comedy movie sure does help to lift my mood - just reading this thread made me realize that I am long overdue for one of those movie days...

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure will stop me from doing whatever important other thing I should be doing so that I can sit and laugh my ass off for 2 hours. Mary Poppins will keep a smile on my face all day and, sticking with the theme of I bet you never even heard of this one, is Darby O'Gill and the Little People, featuring a very, very young Sean Connery and leprechauns!
James - Bed Knobs and Broomstick is incredible! I haven't seen that one since my daughter was little.

Yikes, I am giving up way too much info about myself in this thread. Oh well.... Last year i had the opportunity to meet and work with the musicians who wrote the soundtrack for this show. they had a concert at my schools performing arts center and the Staff member who runs the building was ill so i took his place i got to be their sound engineer it was pretty fun.

Trish,
I just loved Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I don't think I will EVER get tired of that one! I mean, really, time travel in a phone booth? Amazing. And the killer line is George Carlin's comment at the end..."They do get better!"

I remember Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.
There was a sequel: Return of the Killer Tomatoes, and it was hilarious! Starred George Clooney and John Astin.
Regarding Willy Wonka~, one of my childhood favorites. I got to meet and dance with the woman who played Violet, at a Christmas party a few years ago. Denise Nickerson - she's a hoot.

Holy crap Larry you're right! I love that movie to pieces and so does my daughter; we have the 50th Anniversary addition of the movie even. Also, we were just in the city last Saturday and saw Wicked, which is the story of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good witch before Dorothy dropped in. Totally awesome by the way - I highly recommend it.

Trish, I saw The Wizard of Oz many times when I was a kid and lots of times since then, and I always notice something in it that I hadn't picked up on previously. Always! My kids have loved it too, and when it shows up again there's never an argument about what we will watch on the telly that night. Much love, Larry

Has anyone watched "The Iron Giant"? Do you remember the part where the robot catches up to the boy (who's running away in fear) to show him that he now realizes that the boy saved his life, by showing him that broken electrical switch that turned off the power that I was killing him? I thought it was so cool to see the relationship that was developed between those two. An interesting sidenote to this movie, it's a high-quality animated film, and yet it's not a Disney or a Dreamworks production. You will also note that the VAST majority of reviewers give a 5 star rating. Not very many movies are viewed so favorably. http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Giant-Special...97010331&sr=8-1A partial quote from one reviewer: "I couldn't shut up after I saw it, and I walked outta that theater feeling like a happy little boy."

Alan,
I haven't seen or even heard about that one but it sure looks interesting. And so highly rated as well. I'll see if I can find that one over here - it would be a welcome break from the CSA films I'm working on for my book!
Much love, Larry

Alan, Better and better! I like those films about prehistoric times. A Coke cost 5 cents, going to the movies was great because you would get to see a film in color, doctors made house calls with black medical bags, it was a fun thing to sit with your friends and listen for Buddy Holly on the radio, and dress codes in school meant no one came to school in jeans or a T-shirt and all the girls wore dresses. Much love, Larry

"Like swimming naked with girls? Yeah! Like swimming naked with girls. Well, not with girls. You think I was swimming with girls? I saw just one girl. Who, that girl? Oh, no, that's a waitress. No, I was just ordering in. She's a pool waitress. I was ordering some fish for you, Audrey and Mom. She took your order? She took my order, yeah. Swimming waitress. You understand, don't you, Russ? Sure, I understand. Do you think Mom will buy it? Good talk, son. Go to bed, Russ."

Legend 1985 - Mia Sara, Tom Cruise, Tim Curry aka The Lord of Darkness. This is one of my favorites and the best of the fantasy movies. I think this movie was incredible for its time. The costumes ans set were pure art, and the plot a classic. What dreams may come 1998- Robin Williams. Real tear jerker with a happy ending, fascinating movie. History of the world - Mel Brooks - This movie never fails to make me laugh A Christmas Carol 1908 or 1938 - a classic There is also a animation one from the 70s that is good.

As far as a feel good movie that lifts me up when I watch it, I like "Places In The Heart". A beautiful movie about perseverence and redemption.

thats a great website Mike, I use it all the time for those moments when you just can't remember who starred in that one random movie... What Dreams may come is one of my favorites! a bit of a tearjerker, but I love the symbolism and imagery... a beautiful movie. Polar Express (especially around the holidays) always makes me feel good. The Persuit of Happyness was a great feel good movie too...

The butterfly effect- it's both good and bad, but i like the part when Evan goes back in time and stands up to Kayleighs father
Evan at 7:"What time is it?"
Mr. George Miller: "It's time for you to do what I tell you to do..."
Evan at 7: "Wrong answer fuck bag. This is the very moment of your reckoning. In the next 30 seconds you're gonna open 1 of 2 doors. The first door will forever traumatize your own flesh and blood."
and so on but the film can invariably make you feel down or give you strength

I Love standup Comedians. My 2 faverats are Lisa Lampanelli and Lewis Black. But watch out, they can be very insulting and are filled with anger. If you are still undaunted, check 'em out at http://www.youtube.com-Logan

The Boys and Girl From County Clare-Any fan of Irish music would be advised to give this a watch. can't believe I forgot to mention it! It picks me right up!
The music is toe-tapping, and Colm Meany and Bernard Hill command the screen. The rest of the cast is pretty good too and is almost entirely unknowns (except Andrea Corr of the band the Corrs, she was decent, better then most musicians who act I guess)
