Tears like raindrops
tears like raindrops fill my face memories of unspeakable acts done to me
the pleasent times are lost among the thorns and prickers that poke and scrape me
Tears fill my face like raindrops as they fall in the here and now
a place I rarely stayed, but now it is safe enough to wonder freely
Tears like raindrops dried on my face as I look out my window and see today
M. Joseph

Michael,
Nice poem. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for poems that compare tears to rain. Here's a favorite of mine by Rosemary Gwaltney:
Tears in Rain What is it about tears In rain Those gray shadows casting Dampened spirits Across a lamplit street Forging fingerprints On oil-slick puddles
What is it about rain In tears Stretching ghostly hands Through a city park From skeleton trees Your voice echoing In the wind

this was written during abuse by close friend
surprizes me what I can do even while being hurt
at least I know not to let things like that happen and that I can protect myself better now

tears in the middle of the night cleanses my soal
tears in the daytime waters my face
tears with a friend makes me sing my song
thanks for making me sing

The Dean Moderator Emeritus MaleSurvivor Registered: July 15, 2002 Posts: 2080 Loc: Milwaukee, WI Michael, this poem about raindrops is such a beautiful piece of poetry. It seems to me that this is the first time I have heard you speak of staying in the present and feeling safe there.
The past is a huge burden to us. We have to acknowledge it. But it is really wonderful to realise that it is the past, and that today can be really a good day.
I sure hope that you are feeling some joy. AS you get back to teaching, I hope you still have time to have some fun, to enjoy today and enjoy that you are such an important part of your students lives. That always makes teachers feel joy.
Bob

Michael,
Bob's a keen observer and I miss his insights on the site. He's right about staying present, of course. We do have to go back and learn what we need to learn from the past, but there comes a time - when we see that it has nothing more to teach us - when we just have to get up and leave it behind.
Much love, Larry
