What kills me is the idiot near the end of the report saying that the boy made this up.
A sign language teacher is sexual assault and child endangerment charges after police say she had an inappropriate encounter with a hearing-impaired boy.
The incident allegedly happened in the library of P.S. 8 back in July.
Eyewitness News reporter Lisa Colagrossi has the story from Washington Heights.
The alleged assault happened on July 2 in the school library. School officials say 42-year-old Diana Gonzalez has now been placed on administrative leave, away from children.
"The school did the appropriate thing, and it happens, it happens at any school," parent Nadia Ramirez said. "I'm comfortable with my child here."
Parents dropping off their children at P.S. 8 in Washington Heights were just learning of the arrest. Gonzalez is accused of an inappropriate one-on-one lesson with a 9-year-old hearing impaired boy.
Police say the teacher drew pornographic pictures in the child's notebook and fondled him unger the guise of teaching him where babies came from. The boy's mother alerted authorities.
But many parents say they are happy with the Luis Belliard School, which is ranked in the top half of all elementary schools in the city.
"I'm surprised, and and I believe that Ms. Gonzalez, she has to be reinstated in the classroom, she has to come back," parent Eileen Polanco said. "Just a child coming up with something like this, I mean, he could make up a story, he's 9 years old. She's going to lose the whole thing for a child?"
Gonzalez was arraigned Monday on charges of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. She was freed without bail.
