Okay. So I think I need to give up on my therapist just 'fixing' me with this, and that I need do more work on it myself. The last two, or three (what is time when you're disocciative? ha) weeks has been DID hell. My girlfriend says it is like someone with out of control channel changing syndrome. She is like 'for God's sake, just pick SOMEBODY and stay that person'. Which would be wonderful idea and advice if I have any control of it. I don't. Would like to, trust me. It is like, the times I am 'myself' I cling to me, trying to keep from being swept away again.

My therapist has been big help to me in many ways, but she told me right at beginning, when she first tested me for DID and realized it was the situation, that she is NOT specialized in it. She has consulted with another therapist with my consent, and is learning more of it to help me better. Always, I have been resistent to read or learn more about it (similar to the SA), because it seems it would make it more 'real'. Well, it is plenty 'real'. Now maybe if I learn more I can help myself.

I am going to 'google' in a few minutes, but I will ask here also, if anyone have any advice of good, trusted reasources on the subject? I would thank you very much, believe me.

Leosha

I'm not quite sure what DID stands for. Is it basically multiple personalities? If it is, are you asking for members' help in finding resources? Being a true techno geek in every sense of the word, I would be happy to help search the Internet if you need more info on the subject. In fact, if my memory serves me correctly, I have come across actual support groups for people suffering from multiple personalities.

I can't say that I know what it's like first-hand. But I know that it must be scary to even start to admit that you may have it. From what I understand, it's another way that the mind has for coping with tremendous trauma - it "compartmetalizes" parts of the personality and actually creates different people. Am I on target?

If there is something that I can help with, please let me know. I know how dealing with SA is scary enough... let alone the complication of multiple personalities.

Hello Leosha,
try this one: http://www.findarticles.com/ and search for the Dissociative Identity Disorder;
On this site could be found extremely good and professional articles about different medical topics. I hope it would help a little bit to you and your girlfriend, dear friend.
Regards,
Ivo

Leosha, I googled DID, it is a difficult area, and it is not one to be lightly involved in.
Not many therapists are so trained to deal effectively with it.

It is real though, and more research is being carried out in this area, which is good, so I hope you find a good therapist who specialises in it.

Always remember though, your girlfriend loves you because you are you,

how can i be so smoochy?

Get the "Inside Out" book. Go directly to Chapter 4, "Hope."

There are a couple other good books, but "Inside Out" is the best, IMHO. Not for learning any new science about DID, but for recognizing that it's ok to have DID.

Another good one is "Amongst Ourselves," by Tracy Alderman, Ph.D. and Karen Marshall, L.C.S.W. Karen is multiple.

"Inside Out" is still tops, though.

Thanks,

Joe

Thank you for the sources! I have bookmarked the links, to look at some more. The books mentioned, thank you also. Joe, it is good to see you here!

SophiesDad, yes, it is related to 'Multiple Personalities'. I have heard DID is the newer and improved name for it, and have also heard that there are subtle but distinct differences between to two. My therapist says DID. I go with that.

Time for school to begin for me. Maybe understanding it and myself better will improve the healing of THAT part of the SA. Thank you all for information and support. It is always appreciated.
