I am planning to attend the Alta, Utah Weekend of Recovery in September, and am soooo looking forward to it. I would like to ask who else is going. If you'd rather not say, I can respect that, but I will look forward to meeting you in person!

Andy,

Your enthusiasm for the retreat, as for so many other things, is such an inspiration to me. I won't be there (going to the NYC conference in October), but I look forward to hearing your reflections on it.

Much love,
Larry

I will be there. Look forward to meeting each of you. I have been to other weekends and can tell you we are in store for an awesome weekend. It is not to late to register. Hope some more are able to attend. The weekends are truly life changing, positive experiences. Alta is a beautiful location and the therapists are such special souls. Wish we could all be there to tend to our wounds and find the healing that is possible.

Ken is right Alta is beautiful, I like to call the Alta Lodge "The Ritz Carlton of retreat locations". The food great, the rooms are much nicer than your average MS retreat location and its only 45 minutes away from the Salt Lake City Airport.

Only 1 thing that I consider a downside. The stairs at the entrance they are steep, but you'll get used to them..Right before its time to go

Guys There are schoolerships to help cover the coast of the retreat. If you need the help, ask Howard F about it.

Also I will post some images of Alta in the Image Forum if you would like to see what it looks like.

I'm actually planning on attending the next Level II they have at Alta. You won't regret attending guys. It can be a life changing event.

Tom,

According to the Weekend of Recovery schedule it is to be held September 5, 6, & 7 at Alta Lodge; Alta, UT, so it's over a year away yet.

I surely hope that does not fall at the same time as my upcoming trip to Romania which will be happening fall of 2008 or spring of 2009. I would be REALLY bummed if that was the case.

The Alta retreats are usually pretty consistent as to dates. Since they started in September 2004, I'm pretty sure they've always been the 1st or 2nd weekend in September, usually the second I believe. September must be the slow season, between the Skiers in the Winter and the Hikers in the Summer.

They also like to keep Level IIs at Alta, the only exception I can think of is the couples weekend at Center for New Beginnings in Dahlonega, GA this past spring. So sufficed to say, I would bet the next advanced/Level II will be in Alta during the 1st or 2nd weekend in September. Probably next year September 5-7th.

Don't know if your going to be at the conference but that's even better than an Advanced weekend because not only are the wonderful and talented Male Survivor staff going to be there (that alone would be enough LOL ), but you got male SA experts from ALL OVER THE WORLD talking about wide ranging topics. Luckily its going to be in my backyard because money is tight right now and I won't have to pay for airfare or a hotel (I'll be going home every night).

If you are prone to altitude sickness see your Dr and ask for some meds. I wish i had.

Even though I got sick it was worth it in light of the healing inside i got from my time there

Andy, TJ jeff glad you are going.

Steve,

Go to the doc and tell him you're planning to attend an important seminar at the 8,000+ foot elevation. Tell him you'd like something to take for it just in case you get altitude sickness because you can't afford to miss the events.

It's worth a try.

Oh, and anyone who wants to take their favorite stuffed friends.... They are welcome there. In fact the facilitators provide some just in case they are needed.

It may seem kinda silly, but you'd be surprised how healing it can be to spend a little time shedding a few tears into his fur. \:\)

When you return home after the weekend you will also have access to another forum on the MS site you currently do not have access to if you are not already a WoR alumni.

I borrowed a stuffed animal from one of the facilitators several time throughout the weekend, it really helped.

But like J suggested, if possible bring your own. It was quite touching watching guys walking around from room to room holding their notebook and their stuffed animal.

No where else would see that.

-----------------------------------------------

Sabata - I didn't know until I got there at that elevation that i would get sick. Going from sea level to 8,000 feet without getting used to it really got to me. Good thoughts John.

Andy,

Please keep me posted. I can not attend this year - but will in 2008. I really look forward to this and if you have read any of my previous posts I have added this to my "My Do Before I Die" list - it is #6.
