I am sitting here on my front porch just enjoying the day. About 10 min. ago one of these

Nice photo John,

Your story reminds me of the first time I saw the SR-71 Blackbird fly over when I was stationed in Okinawa, same response, scared the heck out of me, I had never even seen a photo of one prior to the fly over.

I know, I really dated my self on that one, they don't even use the Blackbird anymore! Oh well.

Scott

Unfortunately I wasn't the one who took that picture. I didn't even have my camera out here with me, but I do now. That is about the view I got however.

I went to college in Grand Forks, ND which has a SAC base. Saw lots of cool stuff...some of it up close. Knew a bunch of guys out there. They would just disappear for a week at a time with no notice and then not be able to say where they went. But they would say how long they were flying. Kinda cool.

Once, back when I lived on Lackland, I was sitting in the new on-base Burger King (no sales tax!) looking out the window when suddenly an SR-71 went by. That was sweet.

...it was on a trailer; it had been hauled to the base to be put on static display near the parade deck. Probably still there, I bet. You know those things leak like crazy when they're on the ground? They fly so fast, the metal components and fittings on them were purposefully made just a little too small so they'd all fit properly when they expanded as the aircraft warmed up at normal flight speed.
