I was asked the other day
if my glass was half empty
      or half full.

What I really want to know is

   ... what glass?

If you find the answer, let me know. I've been trying to figure out the same thing.

Mark, Darrel,

What if we don't need the glass at all?

Much love,

It's simply a way of asking do you see things in an opitmistic way or a pessimistic way.

So do you think that life is going to be fine and you will get over this or do you think it wont get any better...thats how i would interpret that.

Thats the thing about poetry...it's interpretation of your words that can be twised to mean other things...other than what you intended.

To me in that question...the Glass is you.

I am neither optimistic or pessimistic. I refuse to accept there is a glass.

It is not a matter of accepting myself. I am. It is a fact of nature, whether or not it is accepted. Therefore, the whole discussion of a "glass" is mute as it does nothing to help define or delineate my existance.

Its not about defining your existance...its about labeling your philosophical take on things.

I also will not be labeled. You cannot simply put a tag on me and determine which box I am to be filed away in. I am, have been, and shall remain an enigma. Not that, in so stating, I place myself above or beyond anyone else - just that I flatly refuse to have anyone tell me where I "belong".

The perps tried that. Most of my family did as well.

There is no glass simply because I refuse to recognize one.

The question of "Is the glass half full or half empty" is a way a person asks if you are optimistic or pesimistic. I was not attempting to label you...the person who was asking was attempting to categorize you.

I am just talking this out...LOL

As I cannot read your mind - I cannot assess what your intentions were when you told me I was either pessimistic or optimistic.

In my opinion, you might be better served by realizing you can no more get me to accept the existance of the glass than you can get me to acknowledge any other creation of man's delusions.

Nice try - but since you already conceded defeat - there is little point in your continuing.

And we are both "survivors".

But I have a secret weapon.

I don't have to be right in every instance.
I don't have to be right in any instance.

Neither of those change the fact that I am right, however.

oho - so now you're going to try to insinuate that winning and being right (in the case of this argument) are not the same thing?

That's definitely one I never would have thought would come from you.

But - regardless of how you define it - what matters here is how I define it - since I'm the one who opened the thread by writing the poem that is being so heavily misconstrued.

I am stating you wore me down....you have more stamina and I can't really put forth the effort to keep going on arguing something that is a difference in how we think.

Accepting the difference in us is what I am doing...our interpretation of what was written is different...thats the thing about art...poetry...it can be and will be interpreted in different ways.

I see. So you didn't mean "you win" - what you meant was "this is no longer something I wish to continue"

You should have said that in the first place. You may post at will - I see no longer see a reason to respond.

LOL...to be honest we were talking about getting the last word in chat...remember....

What you intended is something different than what I interpreted...it's a difference between us.

I see things differently than you do....its all good.
