I so enjoy the cousin to this post, things boys discover!! It has brought many happy mental images to me as I read the list. I can relate to so many of them, I read through some of them almost once a week or more. I'm going through something now though, that made me think about a thread from some of the "old" guys here. If anything that gets posted here can help just one younger guy avoid making the same mistake, it would be so worth it. I just found out that I have to spend over $900 to try to correct problems with my teeth because I "didn't believe in flossing". A lot of money, and a lot of pain, leads me to the reason for this post.

1-When the dentist says, floss everyday, PLEASE listen to them!!

I have used a sonic-care tooth brush, and have rinsed twice a day with Listerene antiseptic mouth wash for almost 20 years. That is also the last time I visited a dentist. I thought that as long as your gums didn't bleed, everything was in good shape. WRONG!! As good as I brushed, and rinsed, without flossing, bacteria was allowed to develop deep in my gums, causing loss of bone in a couple of my teeth. I am a twice a day flosser for life now, and my wallet is still screaming from the effect this has on it as well. I know how it feels when an "old" person tries to give you advise. I always knew more than the "old" person and didn't pay much attention. This one really came back to bite me (no pun intended). Floss, floss, floss!! You won't regret it.

if you don't take care of your teeth when you are young . you won't have to when you are old . because you will have dentures

O.k., here's a few:

* As you get older, your hair will get thinner. The sooner you make your peace with that fact, the better.
* As you get older, you will get fatter. Still trying to fit your size 38 ass into a size 34 jeans is just damn uncomfortable. Wear the 38s.
* As you get older, you will eventually learn about the incredible invention called "reading glasses". You can get them at the Wally-Mart for about 5 bucks. And you will be glad you did.

I'm sure I can think of some more. I'm 46, but I don't feel old, so good for me!

I'm only a semi-old guy... But I am learning new things everyday.

5. When you get the urge to go... you better go. Your bladder doesn't work like it used to.

6. The little lines on my TV screen volume indicater, seem to change color for every year I get older.

I could probably come up with many more, but I'll start there.

I promise I'll be back, because each day I'm getting older.

LOL

7. There is no end to the techno fuck-ups you can make, always in plain view of your kids...such as picking up the TV remote in an effort to answer the phone.

Me again....

8. Songs I grew up to, are now only played on the oldies station.

9. People say the grey in my hair makes me look distinguished, but it only makes me feel old.

I'll be back...

15) Your hair turning grey is better than it turning loose.

16) You will repeat certain phrases your parents said to you to your children. The ones that you swore you would never use. ie.. "Because I said so" "are we trying to air-condition the whole outside? Who left the door open?"

don't tell me it doesn't turn loose.. I'm not losing mine, just keeping it in different places, the shower drain, the gap between the mattress and head-board. I'm not sure where those damn ear and nose hairs are coming from...

17) Your eyebrows will, at some point, get tired of laying down. Then they will stand up and say "hey!! look at me!"

The older you get the more you look at your kids and say "Do as I say, not as I do!!"

I realised I have become my parents when walking down the street I said "Whats up with Kids these days"

You will stagger with horror as you repeat that terrible phrase you hated as a boy: "Well one day when you are older you will understand..." Arrrrrggghhhhh!!!

There's a pest called arthritis which will invade your body, take up permanent residence and pay no rent. And life on the lily pad has never been the same, even with a daily swim.

Life can be a bitch, but interesting. Some say age is a state of mind, but the body says get real.

Having only just hit 50, I'm waiting for the old bit!

If I look at my dyslexic age, yesterday I was 94, today I am 5, so I'm 89 years younger!

Best wishes Rik

29. As you get older, you learn that it's cool to pay someone to do something you don't know how to or want to do (such as plumbing).
30. As you get older, you learn that Raisin Bran (and other fibers) are a good idea.
31. As you get older, idiot drivers don't bother you as much any more. Eventually, they all crash or get stopped by the police.
32. As you get older, feeling loved by your partner becomes more important than sex. (Really!)

33. You accumulate a whole closet full of clothes that your daughter won't let you wear outside the house.

34. Your favorite T-shirt features a band nobody but you remembers.

35. Your favorite T-shirt ends up in the dog's bed.

36. You learn that money can't buy happiness.

37. You become a conversation piece because you remember the time when there was no Internet, no cell phones, no computers, no iPods, no DVDs or CDs, no eBay, etc.

38. You become cool in the eyes of your son again because you have old guitars.

39. The coolness gets cancelled once he sees you don't play anything less than 30 years old.

40. You forget how great it was to go out and get drunk with your friends for no reason at all - other than to get drunk.

63 - You can wear boots, that way you don't have to match socks up.
64 - the day you wear boots, you will go into town and finally see a pair of shoes that you like after spending 6 months looking for them. You will try the shoes on & the assistant will wonder why you are wearing odd socks. You will also wonder why both odd socks now have holes in the toes that weren't there when you left the house.
65 - next time you think that there is a remote possibility of buying new shoes, you will wear a pair of socks that match, that don't have holes in the toes. You will cut your toe nails to make sure that the holes do not develop without you knowing. You will also carry enough cash to buy a pair of shoes, so that they will not know your name if you push the toes out of your socks after leaving home. *PS - I once took the p**s out of someone at school for having holey socks all the time - I think that is why I now have such big feet, and fast growing toe nails! Quid pro quo!

72) An Old Guy can learn a lot from teens in similar trouble.

73) When an old guy has KoRn and Linkin Park on his Ipod, the teens think he is too cool.

LOL...I am 30 and I have gotten that (There is alot of people to have sex with but its hard to find someone who will care for you and stick with you no matter what)....maybe i am an 80 year old in a 30 year olds body. Sex is important but it falls behind love to me, sex is not as important as having someone to help you when you fall and are at your worst.

87 I think?

You are never TOO old to feel like a kid again. If you doubt that statement, think of something, anything that you can remember you really enjoyed as a kid, and do it again now.

Sound silly you might say?
NOT!!

At 51 years old, my wife treated me to a trip to the amusement park for my birthday this year. I was 10 years old again on every heart pounding thrill ride I could find.

And it can even be something as simple as roasting marshmallows over a fire at a park that can bring back your inner child.

Sometimes we focus on the bad things, and we have every right and reason to do so, but now and then, try to find something, anything, that brings back even the smallest memory of a happy time and live it again now.

Best wishes and warmest regards,
Scott

DREAMER --

What a great post! We all talk negatively about "triggers"...but I LOVE things that "trigger" me back to my boyhood!!! Things like going swimming in the river, smelling my Gram's cookies in the oven, certain ways sunshine hits my face, smelling the salty air like I did on my Dad's boat or waalking the beach, a loving hug.

Thanks for your innocent, joyous post!!

Mike ;-)

Sometimes we find out that our Grand children have problems that we can not fix . I just found out that My Grandson is Mentaly Retarded .
I have cried until I am just num . I wish that I could take this burden on my self, and take it away from him .
The Bible says that God will not give us more than we can handle. Rite now I am wondering.
Who ever said life is fair . Because it is NOT!!
