Eddie, I agree that To Kill a Mockingbird follows the themes you discussed, but also it is also a beautiful story about kids learning not only the injustices of the world, but learning about tolerance - to "walk around in another man's skin" as Atticus puts it.
Plus it is beautifully directed, acted and anything with Gregory Peck and Robert Duvall has got to be good!
Where the Red Fern Grows - ah, great book and movie - I work in a school and walked into a class where the teacher was reading it aloud. I triggered right there because my perp took me to that movie when I was 11 or 12 - he could drive. I calmed myself and said, "That bastard can't take this story away for me"

I agree, Dan. My favorites scenes from the book and movie don't have to do with the injustices and ugliness of the world. They have to do with the innocence of childhood. I think my favorites scene is probably when Scout, Jem, and Dill run up to the mob outside the jail, and Scout begins talking to Mr. Cunningham about his son, Walter. It shows how still innocent she is to what is going on around her, and illustrates to them all how they will have to continue living with each other. Beautiful.

YES!!! "Hey Mr. Cunningham" - I always thought those were the best child actors ever!
I'm having my daughter read it now, and she's loving it.
Thanks,
Dan

"Shawshank" and "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" was a hoot. My ex-wife is from Australia, Land of OZ, but now in Vancouver. She dsidn't think it odd at all. Hmm.
I'd watch Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins anytime.
Froggy is alive he thinks. Went to pluto for the weekend and things just have not been the same.
