Hi guys,
A lot of you won't remember this totally cool thread started by Curtis way back in 2004. He was at a retreat and just jumped up at one point and declared, "I want a standing ovation!" And he got it.
Back on the DB he started this thread that so many of us have participated in. It's all about saying, "I'm worth it!" I remember loving it from the start.
Today I want to revive it. Today, the 4th of July 2007, is the 32nd anniversary of something I thought I would never EVER be able to do - give up hard drugs. I have been clean since the 4th of July 1975.
Why do I feel this anniversary is so significant? Because this is the first year I have seen this as an achievement. In all previous years I looked back and saw no achievement at all; after all, I was the trashed and messed up young man who could be had for a song, or a drink, or a tab, or a hit... Why celebrate anything that connects with that?
Because I'm not that messed-up kid anymore. Because regardless of all the shit he did I respect him and love him - he didn't know what choices he had, and at least he survived. He got us through all alone, with all that burden of shame and guilt and fear.
Sooooooo.....32 years clean off drugs, and I WANT A STANDING OVATION!!!!!!

Much demanding,
Larry
