I rented the movie "Misery" last weekend, and have watched it three times. It goes back today, and I wish I could keep it longer. I don't know yet what it is about this movie that pulls me in. There's no SA in the movie (fine by me). It's stars James Caan and Kathy Bates. He's an author who gets in a car wreck in a blizzard. She saves him from the wreck, takes him to her house and fixes him up - bandages, leg splints, pain pills. She turns out to be obssessed with his books, and also turns out to be psychotic. She holds him prisoner and forces him to rewrite his last book for her, all the while being this incredible emotional pendulum of a person. One minute she's warm, helpful, nurturing. The next minute she is angry, violent, harmful. It has what I would consider a just ending, though Caan has a flashback.

I feel like I'm studying this movie, like trying to get something out of it to keep for myself. Probably something mother-related. She had this wide-swinging emotional pendulum too. I about never knew what to expect.

I think this is it: instead of mother and son, it was more like keeper and hostage.

Andy, this is a very dark movie, and it is very magnetic, I suppose because of the tension of just not knowing which way she is going to turn.

I guess there are loads of ppl just like her,

It's based on a Stephen King book.

I just loved Kathy Bates in that movie. She's an incredible actor.

All through the movie, Caan is facing this woman who was his rescuer, and caretaker, and abuser. She helped him, and used him. It is such a messed up relationship. Part of the time she is loving and nurturing, the other part she is enraged and abusive. Even "abusive" doesn't cover a couple of the scenes in the movie.

He couldn't leave the situation he was in, anymore than you could, or visa versa ?
