I agree, which is why I hope he gets life in prison. I do not believe in capital punishment. My belief has nothing to do with life, it has do with the fact that it is not a deterrent. Death penalty does not decrease recidivism= ergo not effective.

The jury came back with a verdict of death late yesterday. I'm glad. The death penalty is one that I wrestle with whenever it comes up, BUT, this monster is a repeat sexual predator and his final victim, a child of 9, was murdered by his hands. I won't loose one seconds worth of sleep when he receives his punishment.

Perps continue to hurt children and in several cases were given the death penalty- yet child abuse continues. Recidivism happens when a group or an action decreases as the result of a punishment a criminal hears that another criminal got for his crime- so they would think twice before committing the same offense.

I think they should raise him.

For those of you that do not know what raising is:

In 1750 Britain would take criminals and put them in cuff irons which were connected to tall wooden poles. The convicts would have to stand on their tip toes with their arms fully extended north, on their toes was the only way to keep their shoulders from dislocating. Once they lost their balance and excruciating pain resulted that lasted until their death- which more often than not took days and sometimes weeks.

Quite often, citizens would feed and give them water- to keep them alive and in pain for longer depending on the crime.

Believe it or not- this particular punishment did lower crime rates- but it was abolished in 1902 as it was deemed cruel and unusual.

back where i lived there are 3 cases right now of csa in the court and a manhunt is on for a child rapist ,one thing the hundreds of these cases have in common is its not the offenders first offense. maybe it wont lower the overall rate ,but at least it will be lowered by one! the world might still be a cespool but it is a little safer now,
