Well, I took St. John's Wort for many years. But. after awhile it stopped having any affect. That was BAD! I had to switch to medication, as I could not live with the panic attacks that the St. John's Wort no longer kept at bay.

Omega 3, especially the EPA component, has some fairly good science showing that it is effective in mild depression and bipolar 2 disorders (low-grade manic-depressive cycling), It has also had demonstrable effect on arthritis and is cardioprotective. No drug interactions and no reported side effects. One needs a total of 1,000mg of EPA per day to get the benefical effect. Omegabrite (check online) is among the purest of these Omega 3 fish oil extracts. It would require about 6 capsules of that a day.

Omega 3, is really good, but make sure it is pure, and has been processed the right way.
Omegabrite, may cost more, but it is worth the investment, because it is processed properly, and it is high on the effective oils that are essential.

St Johns Wort, though, is not recommended for anybody on depression meds, so be warned of that one, just a caution,

I tried St Johns Wort a number of years ago. I had nightmares at night and felt very weird during the day. I stopped after about 12 days. I find that Flax Seed Oil and Likota is good for my arthritis. Peace, Andrew

I agree that flaxseed is very good and high in essential oils, I am looking for a spread made of pure flaxseed oil,
