Tom:
I understand that we tend to want to "pigeonhole" everything in our lives and give nice, neat little definitions to make the confusing parts of life a little more understandable. However, I get really frustrated because this issue keeps cropping up time and time again in my life and wreaks havoc with me. I start to doubt the decisions that I have made and start to feel really inadequate and completely ***ed up.
It feels like my life is always in a state of flux and there is never any consistency - does that make sense?

Hi SD.
Yes it makes a lot of sense. We do need to have some kind of certainty about who we are (and who we're going to be) to make decisions or commitments and live with them. I'm sorry that I posted something which wasn't really tuned in to you and your situation.
Your posts seem to come from a person with a real consistency, who's honest and true to himself and his feelings.
Tom.

No apology needed, Tom. I took no offense to the comment. I just get very confused and upset with myself.
