Nope, not talking about college football either!

There's another hurricane that has its eye on the Southeastern US. I say enough! Don't know what this one is going to do and hope it just takes a big right turn and heads back out to sea. It is a powerful one.

Anyway, just making sure we've got all our supplies ready to go in case we get hit and beginning the necessary preparations just in case.

Oh well... either you live in a place with hurricanes or earth quakes or tornadoes... The only one I haven't lived in is the earthquake areas.

Don

Don,
My heart goes out to you. I used to live in a house that was in Massachusetts very exposed to the ocean. We didn't get as many hurricanes as you in Florida, but when we got them it was a major problem.

Glad to hear you've got supplies ready. I hope this one decides to just do its thing out at sea. Stay safe.

Don,

I don't have the option of going through this week without buying more supplies. My youngest son is horrified of hurricanes after Charley hit Captiva Island. My inlaws have a condo there and we received pictures of it without a roof. I explained that no one was there when Charley hit, that the place was insured, there was plenty of warning, and that in a few months his grands condo would be totally rebuilt. It amazes me that as a 16 year old he can be this frightened of a hurricane that may or may not hit us.

Tonight I realized that when I was 16 years old, I wasn't afraid of much. I remember going through hurricanes at 4 years old and through a major hurricane when I was 12 years old. I still am not that afraid because I know I will have plenty of warning.

I wasn't afraid of much at 16 until I was raped by someone I knew, trusted, and believed I was safe with. Somehow, now I dont think of my son's fears regarding safety as being irrational. Even at that age of 16, when you "think" you are grown and "have it going on", you can get nabbed by taking safety for granted. I never take my safety for granted anymore, and now instead of being irritated at my son's "irrational" fears, I am going to go talk to him about never taking his own safety for granted, in any situation, with anybody, at any time.

Guys I want you all to know that we in the far north are praying that the damned thing stays at sea.

We have only had one hurricane ever hit us and that was Hazel in 1954. Lots of damage and 34 lost souls. We do not have earthquakes of any consequence, no horrendous fire of note and no dust storms. We do get the odd Tornado.

If any of you want to emigrate to Canada I will be happy to recommend that you be allowed in.

There is one thing tho. Unless you live in the greater Toronto Area winter can be quite an experience depending where in the Province you live. The only way to deal with it is to enjoy it ahd take up hockey or skiing or snowmobiling.

P.S. Driving in a blizzard can be a lot of fun. Actually sometimes better than any ride at Disney Parks.

Seriously though I hope you all get through whatever happens safely for you and your loved ones.

Blizzards... Dairy Queen right... LOL! I remember blizzards, snow, cold... I'm a Iowa Farm Boy that got lost and ended up in Miami - well Jeff made me come here, heheheheheee! (just don't tell him,,,, because he has a different story).

Anyway I didn't know there were as many of us down here as there are! Wow,, small world. I've been through 6 hurricanes in NC but never a category 4 so this will be a first for me. I will be surprised if we at least don't lose power.

I'm working on a temp job up in sunrise tomorrow and supposed to be Friday but right now, I have a feeling I will be home early! So much for extra hours of income! GRRR!

Anyway, all we have to do is shut the storm shutters and we are ready! That shouldn't take very long at all to do.

Watching the news, they really have no idea where this thing is going.

I didn't watch news these days so I was totally unaware how bad weather forecast is for South East coast.
I'll think in my prayers about all of you that are under threat.

I admire your resolve !
Isn't a Cat 4 "sustained winds over 140mph" ?
I hope the power failure is the least of your problems.

I don't remember where the cut off is for sure but right now the hurricane is around 140-145 mph. So it is nothing to sneeze at. Jeff and I got most of our hurricane shutters already closed (wow, it makes the place dark). I will get up tomorrow and finish it which will take a few minutes. Conditions aren't expected to get bad until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.

Don, Jake, and others in the southern eastern coast of the U.S.: You are in my thoughts and prayers. My girlfriend has family, several cousins, in southern and central Florida. We will be holding all of you in our hearts. Please let us know you are all right when you can.

Here is a link to a photo album I started online. Right now it has a few pictures of our house "before the storm". As I get to take pictures and hoping that I still have electricity & a DSL connection, than I will continue to upload more pictures. Of course it all depends on what happens later tonight and tomorrow.

Right now, they are still guessing what it is going to do. There are possibilities that we may miss the worst of it and then there are possibilities that we might get hit by one side of the eye wall. No way to tell but we are prepared as much as we can be. We've got the shutters up on the house and plywood covering the door. Food is stocked and we've got Ice ready to go in a cooler plus a lot of water!

It is dark with the shutters closed. Currently we are getting some stronger winds and had one gust up to 34 mph. A couple of trees not too far away were knocked down and I have a feeling that was a down draft and not just the wind. It is actually a decent temperature day out for us and the air is fairly dry. Pressure is beginning to fall though.

Anyway, as long as we have electricity and a internet connection, I will be around. Otherwise, if we lose both of those things, than as soon as they come back, I will be back.

Now would someone give this hurricane a good kick in the butt and push it on out of here! It does look like it is supposed to hang around for a couple of days.

Don,
keep informing us. I hope that you will be on safe all time and that wind and damage wouldn't become so big as they are predicting.
I’ll try to kick, as hard as possible, that bad Frances right in the but.

PS. I also hope that your neighbour didn’t forget to put on safe that happy dog from one of your pictures \:\) .

Don. You have a beautiful house. Where exactly are you in Florida. My mother and father in law winter at the Pompano Beach Club on Briney and a1a in Ponpano Beach.

We are pretty close to the Miami Airport and very close to where the National Hurricane Center is at.

It looks like the neighbor took the dog inside. Glad they did because the cops would have had to come up and pick my neighbors butt up off the sidewalk. That poor dog is so lonely because they hardly every give it any attention. I so badly want to cut the fence out and let the dog run away.

Anyway, we will stay as safe as we can. We still have power but have heard that 38,000 in our county are already out of power.

Don, Rich,

Stay safe. Please do keep us posted as long as you can. These things always seem so far away, until I know someone going through it.

Thanks,

Right now it is just teasing us. Moving about 4 or 5 mph and not much going on. I have noticed that weatherbug shows the humidity has gone way up now.

Anyway, wish it would just get itself moving! Get it over with because this is going to drive everyone nuts staying shut up inside.

The lights have flickered a couple of times but so far, we have power! It is raining a little more now and winds have gusted up to 60 mph. They are averaging about 35 mph now for us. There are no trees down in our neighborhood but if this goes on through tomorrow, than it may look different. The hardest part right now is that this storm is moving so slowly and everyone is going to go nuts staying inside. Some of the people have been in a shelter since Thursday afternoon.

Looks like the bulk of the storm is all over for us. We've gotten about 3 inches of rain out of it which is not much and not what they forecasted. There are a few trees down around here but most people in our area didn't lose power. We lucked out on this one. Of course there is another one headed our way which should be close in about a week. Fortunately the hurricane weakened or it would have been much worse for FL than it was. There is a lot of damage north of us, but not as bad as it would have been if the hurricane stayed at 140 mph winds.

Hey Don,

I was wondering over the weekend how you were making out. Glad to see you didn't get washed away like some of your neighbors down there, though I imagine there's still plenty of picking up and adjusting to do. Now if Ivan will just agree to steer clear.

Take care.
