No easy feat reading a classic like Steinbeck. I had to read a group of Russian (classical and Soviet) authors in translation While I liked some of them (Turgenev, Pushkin, Pasternak), I HATED Doestoyevsky and Tolstoy. Too longwinded. I have no idea how you felt about Stenbeck, but I hope you feel compelled to continue your studies in American writers.
