I don't know if anyone else is following the landing of the rover Spirit on Mars. For some reason, I'm just fascinated as all get out with this. If I wasn't so darn scared of closed in and small places, I would love to be one to take a voyage there... Guess when you see pictures from Mars, it puts earth and the problems here in a different perspective.

I am!!!

I'm so happy you are too!!

I am a huge space dork. I have never felt happier to be insignificant than when I am looking at the stars.

They have fun and interactive stuff on the hubble site, if you are interested in pictures from space.

hello fellow space enthusiasts,

did anyone see the show on public tv tonight about the various engineering problems they had to solve for the rover. it was good.

I'm so glad there has finally been a successful mission to mars.

Jim

I didn't see the show, but I was reading about all of this on the mars rover website. It just amazes me that you can plan a process out that takes something from a tiny place in Florida (where they can't count the vote) to a place millions of miles away and hit almost the exact point you are aiming for. I guess you would have to knock out many of your paradigms and current ways of thinking to accomplish this because the moment someone would say "well it has always been this way" would be the moment the space craft would have never made it.

And you know, I can feel another article coming on because this whole process they went through reminds me so much of my healing process. When I first started out, I had no clue how to get to where I needed to go but I just had to fire up the jets, set my sights on that goal and off I went.

Anyway, think it is cool though that one of these little guys has already made it out there.. Wouldn't that be awesome to be standing on this planet where no one else most likely has lived?

get writing, and make sure we get to see it as well.

It's made the news here as well, even after the British effort failed. We're a bit sore about that, but the Rover success is spectacular.

If we'd have called ours "Rover" people would have associated it with Land Rover's - then it would definitely have been doomed to breakdown.
The damn thing wouldn't have got off the parking lot !

I dreamed one night they were giving rides to the moon like a regular airplane and you could go up for a day. I did just that... that would be fun. The only thing is they would probably have to give me some xanax to get me inside the thing.

LLoydy, a lot of attempts have been made and this appears to be the most successful. I would assume we pooled together all the failures to help make this a success. Hmmm, sometimes failure could be a success in just premature.. anyway... when I write the article, I will definately post it.

Emiwe,
That's kewl! It just gives me goosebumps... seeing the images as well and knowing just how far this planet is away from us. Can you imagine someone dreaming that we would do this back in the days when that would have seemed all but crazy... glad we have people who are visionary... and can see beyond the everyday world we live in.
