The link is to some pictures of my latest 4x4 creation that's nearly finished, the competition season starts again in January so I need to get motivated again.

For the petrol heads out there it's been built from the ground up using a modified Suzuki chassis, Subaru Brat engine, Daihatsu Rocky gearbox and Range Rover axles, suspension and power steering.
Don't ask how I arrived at that combination! \:D
( OK, it was what I had lying around or could easily steal from my mate Frank's garage )

Better than therapy ;\)

Dave - It looks really great and adventurous. Never rode in one myself but I've led a very sheltered life. If I were there, I think I'd enjoy pushing through the back roadswith you! Get motivated!!! Light that fire!!! I just bet your January will be soooo much fun!!

Dave,

That's pretty cool! Wish I had a tenth of the ability required to put together something like that. My dad restores antique cars, and this looks like something he would get a kick out of.

Have fun,
Larry

Dave, it looks awesome, but I think you may have put the steering wheel on the wrong side. ;\)

Get out there and compete! And then take some photos of the thing covered in mud so we can see how it's "really" supposed to look...

I've only got 10 fingers Larry ;\)

I've just added a few pictures of our August event at the abandoned Trisant lead mine somewhere on the top of a Welsh mountain.

Wow Dave - sure looks like a project that's gonna lead to a lot of really fun times...

I'm a 4WD club member myself - had a 88 Samurai on 33's a few years back before I blew the motor and basicaly totaled the thing (but it was fun!)

I don't have the money for a wheeling toy right now as I've not worked much this year - but I have had a few friends from the club take me out in their machines so I've not missed out on all of the years fun...

wish I had a decent puter so I could put some pics up - someday...

Good luck in the upcomming competition season...

Have a "Zuc" 4x4 in the driveway, rebuilt jeeps
CJ-5's and 7's for decades until I got to old.

"Mountains"? "Wales" I know I live in the Rocky Mountains but do tell, in Wales? Grandfather must have neglected to mention the great downhill sking in Wales! Then agin he likely never saw much as they worked pre-dawn to dusk in the mines.

Regards and wish could sent the two feet of snow the mountains here got to you, ;\)

Rocky Mountain Joe

Cymru am byth "Wales Forever" as that great Welsh American Thomas Jefferson used to write, when he wasn't busy writing the Declaration of Independence.

PS

My spare time is for that BBC4 radio show "Quote Unquote" with Nigel Rees

I've driven a couple of trails around Telluride many years ago, Engineers Pass was one of them. Happy days.

Our mountains aren't on the same scale, but they're good wheeling territory all the same.

And today I drove like a god !!!! Class win and Overall win ..... \:D \:D \:D \:D

Nice stuff. Looks like fun.

Dual brake calipers? I wouldn't think that would have been required? Please explain.

My first "car" was a rusted out 1970 International Harvester Travelall. It was HUGE! and we took it "Muddin", as often as I could cut school and get away with it.

Thanks for the link. it gave me a smile.

LLoyldy,
Let me know if you come back to Colorado. I spend a lot of time there and have a nice F-250 Crew Cab, 4x4, deisel. A fantastic ride to thunder over the continental divide!

the dual brake calipers are - the original set for the footbrake as standard - the second, more powerful set for the independant fiddle brakes ( cutting brakes in the US ) to lock one rear wheel up and slew the whole vehicle around in its own length.
They are operated from a pair of hand levers between the seats and very handy for getting out of trouble.

One day soon I'll finish the damned thing !

If we get over to the States next summer some wheelin is in order, I missed some good Colorado trails last time we were there because I trashed the rental Cherokee in Utah
And there's some trails around Moab and Death Valley that I really want to drive as well.

I'll try to remember to add some pics of the rental Jeep stuck in Utah's finest mud as well, It was actually a very scary experience, but one we got away with.

Dave
