I know that Jimrh lives in/near the area that has been touched most by the hurricane. I do not know of others in that area, but we have members in the southern states, I am sure some near the coast. I just wished to say that I am thinking of them, hoping they and their families are ok through this disaster. I'm sure everyone here is wishing them all good luck.

I watched this on the news before, and it is absolutely tragic.

I hope that the situation can be resolved, and hope the guys who live in these areas are safe too.

We had a small twister about 30 miles from here a few weeks ago, it took a few roof's off. And that's about the worst we get here in the UK.

The news pictures from the Gulf are beyond my comprehension, the suffering and uncertainty these people are going through must be terrible.

But the US is a resiliant country with big hearted people, they will recover.

hello guys, thanks for the concern.

I am a lucky one who only worked in New Orleans, I actually call Atlanta home and was able to evacuate on Saturday evening.

Although it may take me some months to get my car and belongings back, there are 10's of thousands of far less fortunate people there. My job can easily relocate up to Virginia too, so imagine someone who relied on a job at the 7-11 down the street and now has neither home nor job.

Please open your wallets to help those in need down there. This may well be the worst disaster to hit the USA ever.

We thought hurrican Andrew, and then the 4 hurricanes last year were bad, but nothing can compare to this storm! My heart breaks for these people. It will take years to recover from this. There are literally hundreds of families in South Florida that still do not have homes a year later. I cannot even imagine how long it will take for the Gulf citizens to recover from this.

Jimmer, I am glad you are safe. I am going to find a place this morning to drop off a donation to help these people. Speaking from experience, do not send clothing!!! Send money, food, and WATER. Florida had literally mountains of clothing, in poor condition, after Andrew.

Does anyone know of a program to send used cell phones to the refugees? I heard about it on the radio but was nowhere I could write it down.

I have been praying for you all, and I hope that things get better.

People are doing all they can. Truthfully, despite the warnings, this took everyone by surprise there and up north. The initial news reports the day of the hurricane were optimistic. It seems that we should've waited.

Before anyone complains about gasoline prices, we should remember those who've lost everything.

But I don't plan on letting those who'd exploit this situation get away with it either.

My prayers continue to be with all.
