Are Computers Male or Female?

Five reasons to believe computers are female:
No one but the Creator understands their internal logic.
The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
The message "Bad command or file name" is about as informative as, "If you don't know why I'm mad at you, then I'm certainly not going to tell you".
Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for later retrieval.
As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
If you waited a little longer, you could have found a better model.

However, another group of computer scientists (all female) think that computers should be referred to as if they were male. Their reasons follow:

Five reasons to believe computers are male:
They have a lot of data, but are still clueless.
They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they are the problem.
As soon as you commit to one you realize that, if you had waited a little longer, you could have obtained a better model.
In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
Big power surges knock them out for the rest of the night.

Umberto Eco has a fabulous comparison between the PC, which he regards as Protestant, and the Macintosh, which he says is Catholic. I wish I could remember where it is, because it really is a great one.

Found it! YOu should have asked the ORIGINAL TECHNO-GEEK - took me 45 seconds on Google:

This appeared in the Italian Newspaper, Espresso 9/30/94:

The fact is that the world is divided between users of the Macintosh computer and users of MS-DOS compatible computers. I am firmly of the opinion that the Macintosh is Catholic and that DOS is Protestant. Indeed, the Macintosh is counter-reformist and has been influenced by the ratio studiorum of the Jesuits. It is cheerful, friendly, conciliatory; it tells the faithful how they must proceed step by step to reach -- if not the kingdom of Heaven -- the moment in which their document is printed. It is catechistic: The essence of revelation is dealt with via simple formulae and sumptuous icons. Everyone has a right to salvation.
DOS is Protestant, or even Calvinistic. It allows free interpretation of>

perhaps they are both.

If they were created by people and people have both a feminine side and masculine side. i think it is better to not classify things and just to accept they exist.

And beside i do not understand computers men or women..........so they are all the same to me.

or the

'mango'

is up to the individual -

both give attitude in their own
