it's wild - we in the states - have been getting so much more of Russian History lately -

It's very neat - I mean - we knew of things - of course - but it's like we are getting beautiful details -

today -on the classical radio station there is a day devoted to
Schiastakovich? (spelling) and also October Revolution Music

the other day I heard "the overture to the Bride of the Czar or Tzar"

So beautiful - I bought it ! (by Rimsky Korsikov) These people are known - maybe I am just starting to listen closely?
not sure - but no - never like this did they have such detail - it's great! -

Anyway - we are listening to 'Aurora' now -a piece named for the first battle ship
to fire into the Winter Palace -

It's very moody - and sounds scary - dramatic!

and now it's a fun piece - that he orchestrated of "tea for two" that popular song from the 1920's?

there are passages from this piece that
would make a great couple's dance routine maybe -

it's something out of a Ginger Rogers/Fred Astaire dance routine.

Anyway -

Hi and have a good day -!

mgb

it's funny - the tea for two arrangement -

he did on a bet -

someone said -

you cannot do this in 45 minutes -

he did it!

----

it's the 100 (centenary) of his birth - hence the programme.

Wow, someone who listens to classical music. There are still come cultured people out there \:\) . I love Shostakovitch. I find it so hard to find people who appreciate classical music. I was trained as one and find it the only music that stimulates my mind. So, Mark, how did you get an interest in classical music?

Mark, how are you?

On the October: The great time, great spirit, and great music.

I heard some of it even in school.

Our history is great.

And - I was on Avrora in St.Petersburg. It is a ship-museum now.

Alexey

NOthing can compare to Russian music. The people have more passion in their little toe than most Europeans have in their whole body. I was privileged to be in St. Petersburg for 3 days and what an awesome experience. I'm convinced that the Russian language is as well the most esthetically beautiful language in the world. And believe me, as a lingusist, I have hear A LOT of languages in the world. What an AWESOME heritage you come from, Alexey. And I say that even having a Finnish descent.

Many times music reflects the physical environment where it is composed. And if you visit a particular country of a composer, you can feel why it was written. Sparse vs lush. It boggles the mind to realize how old Mozart was when he started. Many have different reactions to the same piece. Variety is wonderful.

let's not forget Peter Ilyich Tchiaikovsky

writer of the 1812 Overture -

perhaps one of the most important art - AND POLITICAL orchestrations EVER.

GORGEOUS!

and Timeless!

This is really pretty -

It's what I heard the other night in the cab coming home from Boston - That got me on this - Russian Music interest.

Since then I've learned it's the 100th anniversary of Korsakov's birth -

and so it would make sense - they're telling so many stories about him - \:\)
